We are looking for an experienced, hands-on builder who can identify opportunities, design improved systems, and successfully implement them. You will work across the firm to understand how work is done today, identify friction and repetitive processes, and build better workflows using automation, AI, integrations, data and modern cloud software. Our clients are navigating incredibly difficult situations and us working their claim faster and improving the customer experience has a material impact on their lives.
This is a highly independent role. You will be expected to take projects from problem definition through design, implementation, documentation, training and ongoing improvement. You will not inherit a technology or automation team, although multiple members of the team will be collaborators. You will be the person leading the capability inside the firm.
This is not an IT support role, and it is not a traditional software engineering position.
What You'll Do: Build Better Workflows
● Map and understand key workflows across the firm.
● Identify repetitive, manual or error-prone work that can be standardized or automated.
● Design and implement workflows that reduce administrative burden and improve consistency.
● Build automations across the firm's technology stack.
● Continuously improve processes based on feedback and measurable results.
Build and Integrate Systems
● Evaluate the firm's existing technology and identify opportunities to improve it.
● Connect systems through APIs, native integrations and automation platforms.
● Build practical internal tools and workflows where appropriate.
● Work across practice management, document management, email, CRM, reporting and other business systems.
● Manage external vendors or developers when specialized expertise is required.
Apply AI Practically
● Identify high-value opportunities to use AI in legal and administrative workflows.
● Build AI-assisted processes for areas such as document review, summarization, drafting, information extraction, research and knowledge management.
● Evaluate new AI and legal-tech products.
● Establish appropriate controls around confidentiality, privacy, accuracy and human review.
● Help the team understand how and when to use AI effectively.
Improve Data and Reporting
● Improve how information is captured and structured across the firm.
● Create useful reporting and dashboards for leadership and staff.
● Help turn firm data and prior work into reusable institutional knowledge.
● Improve the firm's ability to understand workload, timelines, performance and operational bottlenecks.
Document Everything
Because you will initially be working independently, strong documentation is essential.
You will be expected to:
● Clearly document systems, workflows and automations.
● Maintain technical and process documentation that another person can understand and maintain.
● Explain how systems work, why decisions were made and how they should evolve.
● Build processes that are durable and transferable rather than dependent on one person's memory.
● Create training materials and internal guidance for staff.
Build the Function
This role is expected to grow with the firm.
Over time, you will:
● Help define Virani Law's technology and automation roadmap.
● Determine where additional internal or external capabilities are needed.
● Help recruit future members of the technology and automation team.
● Manage and develop team members as the function grows.
● Establish standards for how technology projects are prioritized, built and maintained.
What We're Looking For
You have at least four years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
● Legal technology
● Workflow automation
● Business systems
● Solutions architecture
● Practice or business innovation
● Business operations
● Product operations
● Technology consulting
You do not need to be a software engineer, but you should be technically fluent and comfortable working with:
● Automation platforms such as Power Automate, Zapier, Make or similar tools
● APIs, webhooks and system integrations
● Generative AI and AI-enabled software
● Cloud-based business applications
● Structured data and reporting
● Business intelligence or dashboarding tools
● Modern productivity and collaboration platforms
You Need to Be a Builder
We are specifically looking for someone who has built and implemented automated workflows and AI integrations.
During the interview process, we will ask you to demonstrate examples of systems, automations, workflows or tools you have designed or implemented.
You should be able to:
● Explain the problem you were trying to solve.
● Show what you built.
● Explain how the system works.
● Describe the tools and architecture you chose.
● Explain what trade-offs you made.
● Describe how users interacted with the solution.
● Explain what impact it had.
● Discuss what you would improve if you built it again.
We care more about demonstrated ability to build useful systems than about specific certifications or credentials.
You Should Be Strong At
● Breaking ambiguous business problems into solvable components.
● Understanding how people actually work, not just how a process is supposed to work.
● Translating business needs into technical solutions.
● Building practical solutions quickly and iteratively.
● Communicating technical concepts clearly to non-technical people.
● Writing clear and thorough documentation.
● Working independently and managing your own priorities.
● Balancing speed, reliability, security and maintainability.
● Driving adoption after something has been built.
● Managing projects from idea through implementation.
● Taking ownership when there is no existing playbook.
Nice to Have
● Experience in a law firm or legal-tech company.
● Experience with legal practice-management or document-management systems.
● Experience automating document-heavy professional-services workflows.
● Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and the Microsoft Power Platform.
● Experience with SQL, Python or another scripting language.
● Experience implementing AI in a regulated or confidential environment.
● Experience managing people, vendors or technical projects.
● Previous responsibility for building a new capability or function inside an organization.
What You Don't Need
You do not need to be:
● a lawyer;
● a full-stack software engineer;
● a traditional IT administrator; or
● an expert in every system Virani Law currently uses.
We are looking for someone who understands technology deeply enough to build, integrate and improve systems, and who understands organizations well enough to make those systems useful.
What Success Looks Like
In your first year, we would expect you to:
● Develop a deep understanding of how work moves through Virani Law.
● Identify and prioritize the highest-value opportunities for automation and technology improvement.
● Build and launch multiple meaningful automations or workflow improvements.
● Establish practical and responsible uses of AI across the firm.
● Improve how firm data is captured and reported.
● Reduce repetitive administrative work.
● Improve reliability and turnaround times.
● Create high-quality documentation for the systems you build.
● Establish a clear technology and automation roadmap.
● Build the foundations for a future technology and automation team.
Why Join Virani Law
This is an opportunity to build rather than inherit.
You will have direct access to firm leadership, significant ownership over your work, and the opportunity to shape how technology, automation and AI are used across the firm.
Initially, you will be the hands-on builder.
Over time, you will have the opportunity to become the leader of the function you helped create.
