Full job description

Position Overview

ASP Earthworks & Construction Services is seeking an experienced, hands-on Working Civil Superintendent for commercial, industrial and agricultural civil projects.

We are looking for someone who knows how to do the work—not just supervise it. You must be capable of operating a skid steer, excavator and dump truck, completing civil work independently when required, and leading crews as the company grows.

On smaller projects, you may be responsible for operating equipment, coordinating trucking, checking grades and completing the work yourself. On larger projects, you will plan the work, lead the crew and remain actively involved in field operations.

This is not an office-only supervisory position.

Responsibilities

Lead and work alongside crews performing earthworks, excavation, grading, underground services, demolition, site preparation and structural fill.
Operate skid steers, excavators and dump trucks as required.
Independently complete smaller civil and earthworks projects when required.
Plan daily labour, equipment, trucking, materials and subcontractors.
Read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, elevations and survey information.
Set and check grades and coordinate survey and layout requirements.
Monitor production, schedule, quality and project costs.
Complete daily reports, employee hours, equipment hours, quantities and T&M tickets.
Communicate professionally with project managers, clients, consultants, inspectors and subcontractors.
Identify field issues early and take ownership of resolving them.
Maintain a safe, organized, productive and accountable jobsite.

Qualifications

Minimum five years of civil construction and equipment-operating experience.
Minimum five years operating excavators and skid steers.
Experience operating dump trucks.
Previous experience as a civil superintendent, foreman, lead hand or senior operator.
Strong knowledge of excavation, grading, compaction, structural fill, underground services and site development.
Ability to read civil drawings and understand elevations and grades.
Ability to plan and complete work independently without constant supervision.
Comfortable completing accurate field documentation using a phone or tablet.
Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
Class 1 or Class 3 licence is a strong asset.
GPS grade-control experience is an asset.
CSTS and applicable safety certifications are preferred.

The right person is a practical and experienced civil professional who leads from the front. You can operate equipment, solve field problems and run a smaller project as a one-person operation when necessary.

As ASP grows, you must also be capable of building, leading and holding a larger crew accountable for production, quality and safety.
