As a Market or Supply Analyst, you’ll play a critical role in the CER’s energy information work, one of our core responsibilities. Accordingly, you can make key contributions in guiding the CER’s energy information strategy, analysis, and programs.
This includes supporting energy information publications, adjudication work, and its data management. Detailed duties may include:
- Participate in adjudicative processes by conducting technical analysis, advising Commissioners, and drafting decisions.
- Communicate and present data and pipeline information products to a variety of audiences, including technical staff and senior leadership.
- Contribute to the design and maintenance of both a relational database and non-relational database including implementation testing, quality control, table design, and access management.
- Collect, manage, validate, and visualize energy-related data using SQL, Python, Tableau Desktop, and Tableau Server.
- Write scripts in Python and SQL to scrape data from a variety of data source types, including PDFs, excel, csv, and webpages.
- Conduct research, analysis, and drafting of energy and pipeline information products, including market snapshots, pipeline profiles, content for interactive maps, and online data visualizations.
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams in developing and publishing energy and pipeline information products, including content for interactive maps, data analysis, and online data visualizations.
- Develop and build relationships throughout the CER to facilitate collaboration and knowledge-sharing in data management, energy market analysis, technical expertise, web product development, and design.
- Utilize enterprise platforms and systems and follow CER policies and processes in program activities.
- Leverage a variety of CER information systems such as the Commodities Tracking System (CTS), REGDOCS (a regulatory database for activities and transactions conducted at the Canada Energy Regulator), and the Data Lake (database) to develop and validate information about the facilities we regulate.
- Support supply analysis by collecting, synthesizing, and evaluating data from diverse sources to assess supply conditions, draw evidence-based conclusions, and support the organization’s supply monitoring and regulatory mandate.
- Support supply assessments, advice, and reporting by estimating resource availability and deliverability, while developing knowledge of current and emerging legislation, regulations, and guidelines to inform recommendations.

Education: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field related to the duties of the position such as geoscience, energy economics, engineering or other relevant energy related disciplines.

Experience:
E1: Experience researching, monitoring, analyzing and reporting on energy related information from Canadian oil-and-gas sector and synthesizing findings into written analytical products (e.g., reports, assessments, briefing notes, statistical summaries).
E2: Experience ing qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to energy related issues and drawing evidence based conclusions.
E3: Experience presenting analysis and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders, verbally and in writing, including the use of tables, charts, or other visual aids.
