About Us
Arolytics is on a mission to improve operational efficiency in oil and gas through the lens of strategic emissions management. We focus on operational efficiency in oil and gas through the lens of strategic emissions management. Our AroIQ platform turns raw SCADA signals into emission event detection, causation analysis, and volume quantification for major North American energy companies.
We are in a period of rapid expansion — several new upstream and midstream customers are onboarding, spanning tank farms, flaring and combustion, compressor stations, and heavy oil.
How We Work
We are Rigorous
Our models produce numbers that show up in regulatory filings and board-level emissions reports. Every value needs to be defensible, reproducible, and physically plausible. We don't ship "close enough."
We are Pragmatic
We work with real industrial process data, gapped, noisy, mislabeled, and inconsistent. Elegant theory is nice; working solutions for messy data are better.
We are Curious
The problems we solve sit at the intersection of thermodynamics, signal processing, and machine learning. No single discipline has the full answer. We need people who cross boundaries and ask good questions.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role for someone who can own a feature end to end: from the frontend through the APIs to the data layer, and stay accountable for how it behaves in production. AroIQ is React + TypeScript on a Supabase backend (PostgreSQL, Edge Functions), deployed on Vercel, with AWS carrying the AI/ML infrastructure.
You won't be siloed into tickets. You'll understand the product, talk to the people who use it, ask the hard questions, and help decide what gets built — working directly with data scientists, data engineers, and product leadership.
The ideal candidate is a developer who treats a problem as theirs to solve. You use AI-assisted coding to move fast, but you can reason about the code yourself, debug it, and explain it. You're a few years in, already strong, and looking for the kind of team where you grow quickly into bigger system-level ownership.
What You'll Do
Build & Ship
- Own features end to end — build and ship across the frontend, backend, APIs, and data layer, and stay accountable for how your work behaves in production
- Write strong, performant frontend code, including handling realtime data in the UI — streaming updates, large datasets, responsive rendering
- Use AI-assisted coding to move fast — while building real understanding of the fundamentals underneath, not just accepting whatever the tools suggest
- Help keep the codebase healthy — write tested, maintainable code and care about the technical debt you create
Data & Pipelines
- Process time-series and telemetry data — transform and surface high-volume SCADA data streams efficiently, on both the backend and in the UI
- Build and reason about long-running and asynchronous processes — data pipelines, background jobs, and model-output ingestion — that stay reliable as volume grows
- Think about data models, edge cases, failsafes, and guardrails, so what you build degrades gracefully instead of breaking silently
Ownership & Collaboration
- Apply critical thinking to every task: understand the why behind the work, challenge assumptions, and ask questions before building the wrong thing
- Contribute to — and increasingly help drive — technical discussions: bring options, reason through trade-offs out loud, help the team reach a decision
- Wear the product hat: work cross-functionally, optimize for the customer outcome over output, and speak up when something doesn't make sense
What We're Looking For
Required
- Solid experience (~3–4 years) building and shipping full stack production software
- A strong sense of ownership and critical thinking. You treat a problem as yours to solve, dig into the why, and ask for clarification rather than guessing.
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript with working knowledge of React — hands-on experience building realtime, data-rich frontends. We value fundamentals over any single framework, plus the curiosity to switch tools when a problem calls for it.
- Working full stack skills — comfortable across APIs, relational databases, and the data layer, not just the UI
- Growing system design skills — you think about how things scale, where they can fail, and what guardrails belong in place
- Comfortable and effective with AI-assisted coding, but able to reason about the code yourself, debug it, and build end to end without leaning entirely on the tools
- Awareness of how modern AI features are built — RAG, embeddings, vector databases (e.g., pgvector) — and how LLMs are wired into a frontend, with an eye on latency and cost
- Understanding of CI/CD and deploying at scale, including surfacing security concerns before they reach production — automated scanning, code review, preview environments
- A real product mindset in the making — you care about outcomes for the user, can hold your own in a technical discussion, and aren't afraid to push back
- Eagerness to work in a small, fast-moving, low-bureaucracy team and take on more over time
Preferred
- Supabase / PostgreSQL, or other relational database depth
- Hands-on AWS — S3 for data processing, serverless functions (e.g., Lambda), how services run on AWS; Vercel and edge/serverless functions a plus
- Experience deploying software (or ML models) to production
- Background in data-heavy or analytics products, or time-series/telemetry data
- Interest in climate, energy, or emissions reduction
Where the Work Is Going
The problems currently open or on the near horizon — yours to shape:
- Scaling the platform — data volume, query performance, and UI rendering that hold up as customers and datapoints multiply
- Model-output ingestion and background pipelines that stay reliable and observable as throughput grows
- LLM-backed product features — retrieval over technical and regulatory documents, pgvector-based search — built with latency and cost in view
- Realtime, data-dense UI for operators: streaming updates, large time-series datasets, responsive rendering at scale
- Maturing an AI-native development workflow without letting quality or understanding slip
What You Aren't
- A ticket-taker — someone who needs the work fully specified before starting, or stops at the edge of their assignment
- A frontend-only or backend-only specialist unwilling to cross the stack
- Someone who ships whatever the AI tool suggests without being able to explain, debug, or defend it
- A developer indifferent to what the product does or who uses it — the domain matters here
- Someone who needs big-company structure — layers of process, sign-off, and someone else deciding what's worth building
What We Offer
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits
- Direct impact on a product used by major North American energy companies
Culture & Ownership
Small team, genuine ownership — your work ships to production and shows up in front of customers
An AI-native engineering culture that invests in your fundamentals, not just your output
Flexible work arrangements — downtown Calgary office or fully remote
