POSITION SUMMARY
The QA specialist role reports directly to the Quality Manager and is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's Food Safety and Quality Management Systems. This role will play a key role in establishing quality programs, developing SOPs and documentation, preparing for SQF certification, and supporting future quality system initiatives such as ISO standards. The position will also provide day-to-day quality assurance support to ensure compliance with regulatory, customer, and company requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's Food Safety and Quality Management System.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality policies, SOPs, work instructions, forms, and other controlled documentation.
- Lead the establishment and implementation of quality system and certification programs, including SQF and HACCP, and drive the development of future ISO systems (e.g., ISO 22000, ISO 9001), from gap assessment and program design through certification readiness.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with CFIA regulations, SQF requirements, customer requirements, and company quality standards.
- Plan and conduct internal audits, serve as a key contact during certification audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections, and lead corrective action follow-up and closure.
- Lead and support food safety programs, risk assessments, traceability, recall preparedness, root cause investigations, corrective and preventive action activities, and continuous improvement projects.
- Own and maintain quality records, documentation, and document control systems, and develop and deliver employee training to promote food safety and quality awareness throughout the organization.
- Provide day-to-day work direction, coaching, and functional supervision to quality control technicians and production staff on food safety and quality matters.
- Lead cross-functional quality meetings and improvement projects, manage priorities and timelines, and report on quality performance and KPIs to the Quality Manager.
- Support and verify routine inspections, sampling, environmental monitoring, and quality verification activities to ensure compliance with product specifications, food safety requirements, and company standards.
- Assist in monitoring production, warehouse, sanitation, and GMP activities, and support investigations and corrective actions related to food safety and quality issues.
- Maintain quality records and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance throughout plant operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2 years of QA experience in a food manufacturing environment, with experience supporting food safety and quality system development, implementation, or maintenance.
- Working knowledge of HACCP, GMP, SQF, CFIA regulations, and Food Safety & Quality Management Systems.
- Experience supporting food safety certification programs, internal or external audits, and controlled quality documentation is an asset.
- Diploma or Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Nutrition, QA, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as HACCP, SQF, SQF Practitioner, PCQI, or equivalent food safety credentials are considered a strong asset.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- English is required; Mandarin is considered an asset.
LOCATION
Cross Iron Dr, Calgary. Public transit is limited in the area, and you may need your own vehicle for daily commuting.
Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
