SAGD Reservoir Engineer
We are working with a well-established energy operator seeking a Reservoir Engineer to join their subsurface team in Calgary. This role will support ongoing development and optimization of thermal assets and offers the opportunity to contribute to both near-term projects and longer-term strategic planning.
This position is suited to someone who enjoys a mix of independent technical work and collaboration across disciplines, with exposure to complex reservoir challenges and active development programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Reservoir Management: Analyze production and reservoir data to optimize performance and support operational decisions. Investigate underperformance and recommend improvements using a range of engineering methods.
- Development Support: Contribute to planning and evaluation of development opportunities, including sustaining and infield projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
- Forecasting: Develop and maintain production forecasts using a variety of techniques, supporting budgeting, reserves, and planning processes.
- Technical Analysis: Build and interpret models, assess data quality, and deliver insights to support decision-making.
- Data & Tools: Apply internal tools and models to support planning activities, and collaborate on enhancements to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Collaboration & Communication: Provide updates and present findings to internal stakeholders, including senior leadership.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance methodologies, performance metrics, and overall asset value.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or post-graduate degree in Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in thermal reservoir engineering
- Professional designation with APEGA
- Strong understanding of subsurface disciplines including geology, geophysics, and production engineering
- Experience with reservoir forecasting and development planning
- Familiarity with thermal simulation and modeling
- Experience with SAGD Development Projects
- Experience with reserves and economic evaluations
- Proficiency with tools such as Excel, Power BI, and industry-standard simulation software
Nice to Have
- Experience with reservoir challenges such as gas or water conformance issues
- Exposure to operations or thermal processes
- Experience with data-driven analysis (R, Python, or similar)
