Senior Architectural Technologist – Custom Residential
Trickle Creek Custom Homes | Calgary, AB
Full-Time
Trickle Creek Custom Homes is seeking an experienced Senior Architectural Technologist to join our Architectural team.
We specialize in highly customized residential projects, and we are looking for someone who brings strength in both architectural design and technical drawing development. The ideal candidate can take a project from initial design concepts through design development and ultimately produce a thorough, coordinated and construction-ready drawing package.
This is a senior-level role suited to someone who understands not only how to draw a home, but how a home is designed, detailed and built.
The Role
As a Senior Architectural Technologist, you will work on custom residential projects at various stages of design and development. You will collaborate with our internal Architecture, Estimating, Interior Design, Sales and Construction teams to develop designs that balance client vision, architectural quality, constructability, budget and regulatory requirements.
You will be responsible for both the creative and technical development of projects, including:
- Developing custom residential designs from initial concepts through detailed design development
- Producing complete, accurate and construction-ready architectural drawing packages
- Preparing floor plans, elevations, building sections, details, site plans and other required architectural documentation
- Translating design intent into technically sound and buildable solutions
- Coordinating structural, mechanical and other consultant information into architectural drawings
- Reviewing drawings for accuracy, completeness, consistency and constructability
- Identifying and resolving design and technical issues before drawings are released for construction
- Incorporating client selections, design revisions and internal feedback efficiently and accurately
- Reviewing applicable Land Use Bylaw and Building Code requirements and incorporating them into project designs
- Supporting Development Permit and Building Permit submissions
- Collaborating closely with Estimating and Construction to ensure designs align with project budgets and field requirements
- Participating in internal drawing reviews and contributing to continuous improvement of our architectural standards and processes
- Managing multiple custom residential projects and priorities within established project timelines
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with a strong combination of design ability, technical knowledge and residential construction understanding.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Architecture or a related field
- 7+ years of architectural technology experience, with significant experience in custom residential design preferred
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop a residential project from concept through construction documentation
- Strong architectural design skills and an eye for proportion, massing, detailing and residential design
- Strong understanding of wood-frame residential construction and construction detailing
- Experience producing comprehensive permit and construction drawing packages
- Strong knowledge of the Alberta Building Code and residential construction requirements
- Familiarity with City of Calgary planning, Land Use Bylaw and Development Permit processes considered a strong asset
- Strong proficiency in Revit
- Ability to read and coordinate structural and consultant drawings
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate potential construction issues
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments
What Success Looks Like in This Role
You are someone who can be given a custom residential project and confidently move it forward.
You can think creatively during design while also thinking several steps ahead to construction. Your drawings clearly communicate design intent, are thoroughly coordinated and give our construction team the information they need to build the home.
You take ownership of your work, identify issues before they become problems and understand that great residential design needs to be both beautiful and buildable.
Why Join Trickle Creek Custom Homes
At Trickle Creek, we make homes that feel good to make. That philosophy extends beyond the homes we create to how we work together as a team.
You will have the opportunity to work on unique, highly customized homes and be involved in projects from early design through to construction. You will collaborate directly with an experienced team across Architecture, Interior Design, Estimating and Construction and have the opportunity to see your designs come to life and understand how decisions made on the drawing board translate into the field.
We value thoughtful design, technical excellence, collaboration and continuous improvement, and we’re looking for someone who takes pride in creating homes that are not only beautifully designed, but thoughtfully detailed and buildable
To Apply
Please submit your resume along with a portfolio or examples of residential work demonstrating both your design capabilities and technical/construction documentation experience.
