Nini's Cooking Academy is an award-winning children's culinary education company in Calgary. Recognized as Calgary's Best Cooking School for four consecutive years, we inspire children to build confidence, independence, and life skills through hands-on cooking and baking experiences.
Our programs are designed to introduce young chefs to practical kitchen skills, food safety, nutrition, creativity, and teamwork in a fun and encouraging environment. We are currently seeking energetic and dependable Culinary Camp Supervisors & Junior Chef Instructors to join our Summer Camp team.
This role combines culinary instruction, camper supervision, kitchen leadership, and daily camp operations. Successful candidates will help create an engaging and safe learning experience while supporting campers as they develop new skills and confidence in the kitchen.
Position Overview
The Culinary Camp Supervisor & Junior Chef Instructor plays an important role in delivering daily camp programming. Working alongside the Lead Chef and camp team, you will assist with instruction, food preparation, inventory management, camper engagement, and overall camp operations.
This is a full-time seasonal position averaging 40 hours per week. Camp operates Monday through Friday during the summer months, with occasional extended hours as required.
Key ResponsibilitiesCamper Experience & Supervision
- Create a positive, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all campers.
- Help ensure every participant enjoys a safe, educational, and memorable camp experience.
- Welcome children and families each day in a friendly and professional manner.
- Supervise campers throughout cooking activities, meal periods, transitions, and recreational activities.
- Encourage teamwork, confidence, independence, and respectful behaviour.
- Support campers with varying skill levels and learning styles.
Culinary Instruction
- Assist in delivering engaging cooking and baking lessons.
- Demonstrate recipes and culinary techniques in a clear and age-appropriate manner.
- Guide campers through recipe preparation while emphasizing safety and skill development.
- Support both large-group and small-group instruction.
- Help maintain an organized teaching environment throughout the day.
Kitchen Operations
- Prepare ingredients and workstations for daily camp activities.
- Coordinate mise en place requirements for scheduled recipes.
- Assist with food inventory management and stock rotation.
- Monitor food usage and help reduce waste.
- Ensure ingredients are properly labelled and stored.
- Follow First-In-First-Out (FIFO) inventory procedures.
Health & Safety
- Maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation.
- Ensure allergy protocols and dietary accommodations are followed.
- Monitor kitchen safety practices at all times.
- Report incidents, concerns, or hazards promptly.
- Support emergency procedures when required.
- Promote proper handwashing, cleanliness, and safe equipment use.
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with Lead Chefs, Kitchen Assistants, and Camp Counsellors.
- Assist with weekly cooking challenges and special events.
- Communicate professionally with staff, campers, and families.
- Support daily camp setup, cleanup, and operational tasks.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
Additional Duties
- Assist with recreational activities during breaks.
- Help maintain kitchen cleanliness and organization.
- Ensure campers remain hydrated and comfortable throughout the day.
- Complete other camp-related responsibilities as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with children, youth, camps, recreation programs, or educational environments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and highly organized.
- Passion for teaching and mentoring children.
- Ability to stand and move throughout the workday.
- Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
Preferred
- Culinary training, culinary diploma, or related food industry experience.
- Experience teaching cooking, baking, or recreational programs.
- Food Handler Certification.
- Standard First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Experience working with diverse communities and age groups.
- Leadership or supervisory experience.
Candidates without certifications may still apply if willing to obtain them before camp begins.
Training Requirements
Successful applicants must attend:
- One full-day onsite orientation and training session.
- Additional camp-specific training during the opening week of programming.

Typical Schedule
Monday – Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
