YouTube Content Strategist & Videographer
Location: Calgary, AB (in-person)
Job type: Full-time
Salary: $80,000-$100,000 / year, plus performance bonus
The role
We're a fast-growing, founder-led home service company expanding across Canada and the United States, and our YouTube channel is central to how we grow. We're hiring one person to own and oversee the entire channel end to end: strategy, filming, growth, and the editors and designers who support it.
We want someone with very high standards who wants to drive and own this channel. Not an order-taker, an owner. You set the bar, push the quality, and treat this like it's your own.
The quality bar
We want our videos to look and feel on the level of the best creators on YouTube, brought to lawn care and home-service business content. The benchmark:
- Peter McKinnon (cinematic filming, punchy editing)
- Daniel Schiffer (cinematic, commercial-grade b-roll)
- MKBHD / Marques Brownlee (clean, polished talking-head and b-roll)
- Johnny Harris (story-driven, strong motion graphics)
- Matti Haapoja (filmmaker-level cinematics)
This must be top notch, every single video. We are bringing a production level to this industry that it has never seen. If that excites you, keep reading.
Who owns what
- Strategy: all you. Topics, titles, hooks, packaging, content calendar
- Filming: all you. Camera, lighting, framing, cinematic capture
- Channel metrics and growth: all you. CTR, retention, view duration, subscriber growth
- Editing: you manage it but it's outsourced. We contract a specialist editor. You brief, direct, and review them. You don't cut it yourself
- Thumbnails: you manage it but it's outsourced. Unless you can deliver excellent thumbnails yourself (bonus)
You oversee the editors and thumbnail designers. We are happy to pay specialists so you can focus on strategy and filming, but the final quality is on you.
The single most important thing: strategy
This role lives and dies on strategy. We need someone who understands how YouTube actually grows: topics, titles, hooks, packaging, and retention. Beautiful videos about the wrong things go nowhere.
Just as critical is the ability to strategize with the founders and understand their vision. That is key. You take the direction we set and turn it into content that performs.
What you'll do
- Own channel strategy: content calendar, topics, titles, hooks, and packaging
- Film and light shoots to a cinematic, top-tier production standard
- Strategize with the founders and execute their vision for the channel
- Manage the editing and thumbnail contractors: brief them, review their work, hold the quality bar
- Run the production pipeline from raw footage to published video
- Repurpose long-form footage into Shorts and clips for YouTube, LinkedIn, and Instagram
- Coach the founders to perform better on camera
- Report on the numbers: click-through rate, average view duration, retention, view velocity, and subscriber growth
What you bring
- Proof you've grown a YouTube channel, with real numbers (subscribers, views, retention) over a stated timeframe
- Elite content strategy instinct. This is the number one requirement, full stop
- Very high personal standards and the drive to own this channel like it's your own
- The ability to understand the founders' vision and turn it into content that performs
- Genuine, high-end shooting skill: camera, lighting, framing, composition. We want to see footage you shot
- A data-driven approach: decisions made off CTR, retention curves, and view duration
- Based in Calgary or willing to relocate. Shoots are in-person and full time
Bonus points
- Excellent thumbnail design (lets us keep thumbnails in-house)
- Experience with founder-led or business content
- A sharp eye for motion graphics and sound design so you can brief the editor precisely
Compensation
- $80,000-$100,000 / year based on what you bring
- Performance bonus tied to channel-driven growth
- Full-time, in-person in Calgary
How to apply
- Submit a detailed cover letter on why you'd be a great fit for this role
- Answer the screening questions
- Include your portfolio, and for at least one channel, the numbers you drove and over what timeframe

Pay: $80,000.00-$100,000.00 per year
