Residential Youth Worker (24-Hour Live-In)

About Bravelight Youth Services

Since 2011, Bravelight Youth Services has provided residential and outreach services to children and youth throughout the Fraser Cascades region. About the Role

As a Residential Youth Worker, you will provide direct care and support to children and youth living in one of our licensed residential homes. This is a hands-on role where no two shifts are the same. You will help create a safe, supportive, and structured home environment while building positive relationships that encourage growth, independence, and well-being.

Responsibilities include supporting daily routines, teaching life skills, transporting youth to school, appointments, family visits, and recreational activities, collaborating with families and professionals, completing documentation, and responding calmly and professionally to challenging situations. Residential Youth Workers also share responsibility for maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming home.

Residential Youth Workers support children and youth with a range of behavioural, emotional, developmental, and mental health needs. Success in this role requires patience, professionalism, sound judgement, and a relationship-based approach to supporting youth through both everyday routines and more challenging situations.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct care, supervision, and support to children and youth in a residential setting.
Build positive, respectful, and therapeutic relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
Support youth with daily routines, education, life skills, recreation, appointments, and community involvement.
Respond calmly and professionally to behavioural challenges and crisis situations while maintaining safety and preserving each youth’s dignity.
Collaborate with MCFD, families, schools, healthcare providers, and other professionals to support each youth’s care plan.
Complete accurate, objective, and timely documentation, including caregiver logs, incident reports, and other required records.
Transport youth safely to appointments, school, family visits, recreational activities, and community outings.
Prepare meals and participate in housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, yard maintenance, and other household responsibilities.
Follow agency policies, procedures, and service plans while exercising sound professional judgement.
Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for dependable, professional individuals who are committed to providing high-quality care and making a positive difference in the lives of children and youth.

Successful candidates demonstrate initiative, accountability, and sound judgement. They communicate effectively, follow through on responsibilities, adapt to changing situations, and contribute positively to a collaborative team environment. They are comfortable working independently, receptive to feedback, and confident using technology to complete documentation and other daily responsibilities.

Qualifications & Requirements

Completion of at least two years of post-secondary education in Child and Youth Care, Human Services, Social Services, or a related field.
Minimum two years of experience supporting children and youth with behavioural, emotional, developmental, or mental health needs.
Current Standard First Aid with CPR certification.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent).
Access to a safe, reliable, and insured personal vehicle suitable for transporting children and youth.
Successful completion of all required pre-employment screening.
Knowledge of child and youth development, attachment, trauma-informed practice, mental health, and substance use is considered an asset.

Hours of Work

This position consists primarily of 24-hour live-in shifts, with employees remaining in the home overnight and sleeping on site. Flexibility is required to meet the operational needs of the program.

Compensation

$450 per 24-hour live-in shift.

This role requires employees to work 24-hour live-in shifts. Shifts typically begin at 9:45am and end at 10:00am the following day. Employees remain at the home overnight and sleep on site. Are you able to meet this requirement? Yes/No
A youth in your care becomes visibly upset and begins to escalate, showing signs of emotional distress. Describe, step by step, how you would respond to support the youth while maintaining safety and preserving the youth's dignity. Include how you would communicate with the youth, how you would manage the environment, when you would involve additional support if needed, and what you would do once the youth is calm.
