Kinder Roots opened in May 2026 as a new infant/toddler focused program in Fort Macleod, Alberta, operated by the Fort Macleod Early Learning & Childcare Society. We are a licensed, non-profit program providing warm, responsive care and high-quality early learning experiences for children from birth to three and a half years old.
Our program is guided by the FLIGHT curriculum framework, and our team is focused on building secure, trusting relationships with every child through predictable routines and play-based learning. At three and a half, children transition into our secondary support program, Wild Roots (ages 3-5) and later into school-age care. We're a small, community-rooted program, and we're growing right now to meet increasing demand for infant care in Fort Macleod.
We currently have two Level 2 Early Childhood Educator openings: one full-time (1 FTE) position, and one part-time/casual position, a good fit for an educator looking for flexible hours or backup coverage shifts. Please indicate in your application which role, or both, you're interested in.
About the role
As an Educator, you'll work directly in ratio with infants and young toddlers, building secure, trusting relationships and creating a safe, engaging environment throughout the day. You'll work closely with your fellow educators and the Executive Director to keep the program predictable, child-centered, and inclusive.
What you'll do
- Provide warm, responsive caregiving during meals and snacks, diapering, toileting, dressing, rest time, and daily transitions, helping children feel safe, regulated, and supported throughout the day.
- Create and carryout nurturing, sensory-rich, play-based learning environments designed specifically for infants and young toddlers.
- Observe children's cues, interests, and developing skills, and use those observations to help inform ongoing curriculum planning.
- Support children's social and emotional development through co-regulation, naming and modeling feelings, and guiding behavior with empathy.
- Foster pro-social skills such as sharing, turn-taking, and gentle problem-solving between children.
- Build secure, trusting relationships with each child and their family.
- Maintain safe, active supervision at all times, indoors, outdoors, and during off-site experiences, including accurate and consistent head counts.
- Complete accurate documentation entries for each child, along with required paper and digital records such as attendance, incident reports, medication logs, and developmental notes, while protecting confidentiality at all times.
- Collaborate closely with co-educators to maintain consistent routines and approaches, and participate in team discussions, planning, and problem-solving.
What you bring
- ECE Level 2 certificate (required).
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR/AED (Level C).
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector search.
- Clear Child Intervention Check.
- Demonstrated ability to provide nurturing, responsive care for infants and toddlers.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- A commitment to maintaining legislated ratios and group sizes, active supervision at all times, and cultural, inclusive practices woven into daily routines.
Schedule
Our operating hours are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday. The full-time position follows a consistent Monday to Friday schedule within those hours. For the part-time/casual role, we're especially interested in hearing from candidates their preference in available shift times.
