The Lakeland Centre for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (LCFASD) has been providing Diagnostic, Intervention and Prevention of FASD services since 2000. We are known across the province and nationwide for our novel, non-judgmental, supportive services.

About the Role
The Prevention Facilitator/Educator is a member of the LCFASD team, focusing on raising awareness and preventing Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) throughout Alberta. This role involves engaging health and social service providers, women of childbearing age and their partners, and other community members through presentations, workshops, and the use of social media.
Key Responsibilities
- Initiate and maintain collaborations with health and social service providers (e.g. Primary Care Network, AHS – Mental Health, Colleges, Universities, PDD, etc.) to expand FASD prevention and awareness efforts.
- Provide training to healthcare professionals to support women in reducing alcohol use during pregnancy.
- Deliver training and awareness campaigns for women of childbearing age and their partners, on the risks of alcohol use during pregnancy.
- Support the development and maintenance of community services for individuals concerned about alcohol consumption during pregnancy.
- Identify, support, train and educate others within the outlying areas of the Network vicinity, to engage in community capacity building and develop FASD awareness and prevention – through the FASD Prevention Conversation with their own community to further enhance awareness and prevention to decrease incidents of FASD
- Understand the Network system and know their existing capacity.
- Maintain accurate attendance and program evaluation data.
What you bring to LCFASD
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Health, Human Services, or a related field.
- Minimum two (2) years of related experience working with high-risk populations, FASD, or community development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and various Social Media platforms.
Assets
- Post-secondary education in a related field will be considered an asset.
- Experiencing working with First Nation, Inuit or Métis Peoples considered an asset.
- Previous experience with FASD prevention and education programs is an asset.
- Experiencing providing emotional support to individuals from a strength-based approach is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of FASD will be considered an asset.
Skills

Training
The following training will be considered an asset (training will be provided):
Motivational Interviewing.
CPR/First Aid.
ASIST.
Addictions & Mental Health training considered an asset.
Conditions of Employment:
- Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector Screening).
- Child Intervention Record Check.
- A current Class 5 driver’s license, satisfactory driver’s abstract and good insurance history is necessary to be insured by LCFASD.
- This position will require driving and use of personal vehicle when the LCFASD vehicle is not available.
- Proof of third-party insurance in the amount of 2 million dollars is required.
Working Conditions
Caseload: The Prevention Facilitator/Educator will manage FASD awareness and prevention activities across the designated region, supporting women of childbearing age and their partners, health and social service providers, and community stakeholders.
Travel: This position requires frequent travel that will require the use of your own personal vehicle.
Administrative: The Prevention Facilitator/ Educator is required to complete the necessary case management, reporting, and documentation as required.
- Hours of work are flexible within a one-month time frame: 36.25 hours per week not to exceed 145 hours per 4-week period.
- Overtime may be required.
- Provide volunteer time e.g. Fundraising, Mocktails.

Pay: $25.25-$27.29 per hour
