Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Paralegal specializing in Debt Collection and Small Claims Court procedures. In this vital role, you will support legal teams by maintaining and managing case files from initial demand through to resolution, prepare and file Small Claims Court documents (claims, defences, motions, etc), communicate with clients, debtors and third parties in a professional manner, draft correspondence and legal documents with accouracy and attention to detail, attend court tribunal as required, track deadlines and ensure timely progression of files. Your expertise will help streamline legal workflows, maintain accurate records, and facilitate successful resolution of debt-related matters. Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of legal documents such as claims, defences and motions for debt collection and small claims cases
- Conduct thorough research using legal databases like LexisNexis to gather relevant case law, statutes, and debtor information
- Manage case files using document management systems, ensuring all records are accurate, organized, and up-to-date
- Perform data entry tasks to record case details, court dates, correspondence, and payment histories with precision
- Support the drafting of legal correspondence and reports while maintaining high standards of proofreading for clarity and accuracy
- Coordinate with clients and external parties via phone or email, demonstrating professional phone etiquette and effective communication skills
- Organize filings with courts and ensure timely submission of documents in accordance with jurisdictional requirements
- Assist in interviewing clients or witnesses when necessary to gather pertinent information for case development
Experience
- Paralegal diploma
- Knowledge of court procedures related to Small Claims Courts and debt collection processes is highly preferred
- Familiarity with legal research tools such as LexisNexis or similar platforms
- Experience managing case files and documents using document management systems
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent writing skills with attention to detail for drafting legal documents and correspondence
- Demonstrated ability to perform data entry accurately and maintain meticulous records

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
