Sunrise Developmental Support Services is a charitable organization supporting youth and adults with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, and physical disabilities (e.g., mobility challenges, reliance on assistive devices). Each year, we attend an overnight camp where our members enjoy a week of connection, fun, and meaningful social experiences. To ensure their health and safety, we have two nurses on site at all times.
We are seeking 1 dedicated nurse—Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP), Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), or nursing student—to provide essential medical support during a week-long overnight camping experience at our Summer Camp from Tuesday, August 18th to Monday, August 24th.

Nurses will reside in a private cabin within the Medical Centre, which includes a private bedroom, bathtub, and shower facilities. The bathtub may be used for client care as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer medications (oral, topical, and PRN, including rectal administration) safely and on schedule.
- Provide first aid and respond to medical concerns or emergencies for members, volunteers, and staff.
- Monitor and manage seizure activity and other medical needs according to individualized care plans.
- Maintain thorough, accurate, and up-to-date documentation, including medication records and incident reports, to ensure staff can respond to questions from parents/guardians after camp.
- Communicate proactively with staff regarding members’ health, medications, or any medical events during camp.
- Collaborate effectively with other nurses, staff, and volunteers to ensure continuity of care while supporting a positive camp experience.
- Participate in camp programs and traditions when duties allow, helping create a memorable experience for members.
Requirements:
- Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP), Registered Practical Nurse (RPN), or nursing student.
- Have a College of Nurses Ontario (CNO) Registration Number if applicable (required for RNs, RPNs, or NPs). Nursing students should indicate their current program and expected graduation year.
- 1–2 years nursing experience preferred; experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities encouraged but not mandatory.
- Willingness to attend training and medication review sessions in Whitby, ON, and relocate to Camp Kodiak for one week (transportation provided).
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to maintain clear documentation and ongoing communication with staff.
- Collaborative, professional, and flexible team player.
Important Dates:
- Training Day (Whitby, ON): Sunday, July 26th, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. This session will review individualized care plans, member medical needs, and best practices for interaction and support.
- Medication Review Day (Whitby, ON): Sunday, August 16th, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Nurses, staff, and guardians/caregivers will review medications and documentation for each client to ensure accuracy and preparedness for the week of camp.
Accommodation and Logistics:
- Transportation to and from camp will be provided via coach bus; pick-up and drop-off locations will be communicated to hired nurses.
- Private cabin with bedroom and bathroom facilities; refrigerator available for personal snacks.
- Daily meals provided, with accommodations for dietary restrictions and allergens where possible.
Compensation:
- Total pay: $400.00 CAD, including training and medication review days.
Pay: $400.00 per week
