Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! The Successful Candidate will:
1. Operates and maintains all theatre equipment including repairs and service to equipment; performs load-ins and load-outs as necessary; operates theatre equipment and/or oversees the operation of equipment for productions as required; set up and operate rental equipment if necessary; provides technical support to theatre users.
2. Responds to enquiries/questions/concerns/complaints from user groups, general public, and staff and/or refers to appropriate staff.
4. While on shift, be a leader for the technical aspects of a production.
3. May be required to attend special events at various locations.
4. Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with departmental and corporate objectives.

1. Post-secondary courses in technical theatre and/or previous experience in radio/TV production and/or Audio/Visual training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.
3. Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing and reliable vehicle for corporate business.
4. Must have or be willing to obtain a Canadian Fireworks Operator certificate at the level of Pyrotechnician.
5. Working knowledge of health and safety guidelines as set out in the “Safety Guidelines for the Live Performance Industry in Ontario.”
6. Strong interpersonal, supervisory, and communication skills.
7. Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines.
8. A good understanding of the production process and theatre production techniques.
9. Ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff, the general public, user groups and volunteers.
10. Significant experience with computers including Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, specialized sound/lighting control programs, and computerized lighting/sound control consoles (e.g. Show Cue System, ETC Ion, Element , and Nomad lighting control, Digico SD9 and Beringher X32 Audio Consoles)
11. Experience in the operation and maintenance of automated lighting fixtures.
12. Experience maintaining theatre equipment and managing detailed repair logs.
13. Availability/flexibility to work week days, evenings/weekends and special events.
Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
Disclaimer: Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through a WSIB-approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C certification at candidates own cost.
