Aplin has partnered with an established food manufacturing organization to recruit a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant. This role will support manufacturing, supply chain, inventory, capital expenditure and cash-flow processes while helping the business identify opportunities to improve cost control and operational efficiency.
The successful candidate will bring hands-on cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide clear, accurate financial information to operational and senior leadership.
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with approximately 50% of the time in the office and 50% working remotely.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve the organization’s cost accounting systems, processes and records.
- Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs with actual production results.
- Investigate material, labour and overhead variances and communicate findings to management.
- Identify and recommend cost-saving and operational improvement opportunities.
- Support product costing, including estimates for new and proposed products.
- Analyze the financial impact of changes to products, materials, production processes and services.
- Prepare profitability and pricing analyses to support business decisions.
- Assist with capital expenditure assessments, approvals, tracking and reporting.
- Conduct internal cost reviews and support external audit requirements.
- Assist with general ledger activities, account reconciliations and period-end reporting.
- Support physical inventories and monitor cycle-counting processes.
- Ensure financial reporting and accounting practices comply with applicable accounting standards and internal policies.
- Partner with manufacturing and supply chain teams to improve the quality and accuracy of operational and financial data.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field.
- CPA designation, or progress toward completion, is considered an asset.
- At least two to three years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment; experience in food, consumer products or another high-volume production setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, standard costing, inventory accounting and manufacturing variances.
- Experience supporting capital expenditure analysis and business cases.
- Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial information clearly.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and experience working with ERP and financial reporting systems.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively across departments.
