OVERVIEW

The REGISTERED DIETITIAN (RD) in the outpatient and day treatment Eating Disorders Program is an integral member of the interprofessional team and a specialist in the delivery of nutrition therapy in eating disorders. The RD provides services based on standards of quality and evidence-based practice, collects and interprets patient health data, completes a comprehensive nutrition assessment, and determines a nutrition diagnosis.

In partnership with the patient, their families and the health care team, the RD establishes priorities, strategies and nutrition interventions that allow the patient to achieve optimal health outcomes. The RD monitors and evaluates clinical outcomes. The RD works as an integral team member to empower patients and familieswith knowledge and support to achieve their treatment goals. As an interprofessional team member, the RD fosters a culture of safety by minimizing patient harm, promoting the well-being of patient and health care providers, reducing the likelihood of adverse events, and communicating safety concerns.
EDUCATION

Successful completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a 4 year Dietitians of Canada accredited university nutrition program degree or recognized equivalent required

Successful completion of dietetic internship program accredited by EQUAL required.

Active membership with the College of Dietitians of Ontario in good standing required
Membership with Dietitians of Canada preferred
Adherence to the Code of Ethics, professional standards and competencies in accordance with the College of Dietitians of Ontario, required

QUALIFICATIONS

At least 3-5 years related experience required with eating disorders experience preferred
Experience as a preceptor preferred
Experience in a hospital environment preferred
Ability to exercise sound clinical judgment and to function in anindependent, self-directed manner, required.
Flexibility and ability to prioritize and to deal with changes in tasks with short notice, required.
Ability to learn, demonstrate competency, and perform applicable advanced eating disorders-related nutrition assessment
Proficiency in computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office applications and medical software, required.
Ability to negotiate and advocate for patients and the Dietetic profession, required.
Demonstrated teaching ability, and leadership skills to facilitate meetings, volunteers and students, required.
Ability to adapt to a wide variety of patient populations and knowledge of cultural foods and diversity, required.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonalcommunication skills, required.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, required.
Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making and conflict resolution skills, required.
Ability to extract very detailed informationto make informed decisions, required.
Broad-based knowledge and versatility in clinical dietetics, required.
Good work and attendance record required
