About Us: Roots Private School is a co-educational private day school providing instruction to students from Grades 1 through 8. Your Opportunity: We are looking for a passionate Elementary School Teacher, specializing in teaching English Language Arts, to join our team. An Elementary School Teacher develops ways to help students grow in the classroom by setting a great example and providing lessons that meet the needs of all students.
This position is a 10-month contract beginning at the start of the school year, from September until the end of June.
We are looking for a professional candidate who is passionate about teaching and is an excellent team player. The candidate will teach their core subject, English, and fulfill the additional duties of a homeroom teacher. The right candidate will successfully guide students through all the units under the Ontario and Roots Private School curriculums. Attention to individual learning styles and tailoring your teaching style to meet the needs of individual children is an essential skill for this position.
You will work directly with students and with the Principal and Vice-Principals to ensure the success and development of your classroom. Roots will provide as much training and support as possible to ensure you have a smooth transition into our school environment.
Your Responsibilities:
- Report to the Principal and Vice-Principals of Roots Private School
- Manage the classroom and create lesson plans that are within the bounds of the Roots Private School curriculum, which is 1-2 years ahead of the Ontario Curriculum in Math and English subjects
- Monitor each student's progress and create Individual Education Plans as needed
- Fulfill the additional duties of Homeroom Teacher, such as assisting students on field trips, school concerts, and meeting with parents
- Evaluate students on a regular basis and prepare grades and comments for first and second semester Report Cards
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding both academics and behavior via email, phone, parent-teacher interviews, and meetings
- Comply with and follow all Roots Private School Teaching Duties and Responsibilities and policies
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- 2+ years of experience teaching in an elementary school environment in Canada
- Expertise in subject matter and ability to create experiential learning opportunities
- Ability to work well with a team, communicating regularly throughout the school day as needed
- Passionate about creating a positive, inclusive, and vibrant learning environment
- Excellent communication skills in English both verbally and written
Assets (not required):
- Background/experience in teaching English
- Background/experience in teaching Math
