Position Information:
Full-time Support Staff Position Opportunity: Temporary Employee Replacement (see Appendix D of collective agreement) November 2026 to June 2028
Payband: I; Starting Rate: $41.20; Four Year Rate: $47.57
Department: Faculty of Social & Community Services
Hours: 35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon – Fri (8:30 am – 4:30 pm; some evening and weekend shifts required)

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent assists Community Integration through Co-operative Education (CICE) students to maximize their learning potential. The incumbent advocates and intervenes on behalf of CICE students with faculty, students, and college-wide services. Based on aptitude and skill assessment of students the incumbent will modify faculty course outlines, tests, and assignments.
Additionally, the incumbent acts as the team lead and is the first line of contact for resolutions of issues and explains policy and procedures as required.
CICE Lead responsibilities include:

Organizing team meetings
-
Facilitating team in scheduling Learning Facilitators to support students in classrooms, field placement and in tutoring sessions

Organizing recruitment activities such as Open Houses, Program Information Sessions and updating Program Guide
providing a program link to the Program Advisory Committee -
Functioning as the internal liaison with other Faculties, departments and committees i.e. Financial Aid & Awards, Student Association, etc.

Liaising with external agencies/organizations where applicable

Collaborating with the Student Advisors on student timetables

Assisting with the recruitment of students
-
Liaising with CICE colleagues at other colleges for best practices
providing support in problem-solving issues and concerns and facilitating resolution with team where required, escalating to the Associate Dean as needed -
Facilitating team in completion of quality assurance processes, e.g. annual reviews, program reviews
Acts as a liaison between students, college faculty and staff by:
- Providing a smooth transition into college / academic life

Attending classes with the student to promote smooth integration with other students and faculty
- Adjusting course outlines to reflect curriculum objectives to fit student needs pending faculty approval

Meeting with faculty to promote inclusion of students in the classroom

Providing classroom support such as note taking, lab support, group work facilitation and advocating for students should concerns arise

Promoting inclusion of the CICE students in college social activities
Support students by:
- Preparing supplemental class material for student use
-
Determining techniques and tools to utilize for individual/group tutorial sessions based on the best fit for each individual student

Using various software programs to assist student with the learning process
-
Setting up and assisting with the use of adaptive equipment when needed
-
Providing academic guidance and developing the path for students’ areas of focus

Modifying tests/exams and assignments to meet individual student needs, develop study strategies, review questions or project outlines and forward to faculty for approval

Invigilating tests and exams

Assisting in setting up peer tutoring

Advising students in solving problems such as accessing appropriate college resources (Financial Aid, Access and Support Centre, Academic Advising, lockers, purchasing books, OSAP, insurance opt out, student ID, DC Connect, MyCampus)

Monitoring absences and escalating as appropriate

Mentoring part time and new staff
Working with the CICE team the incumbent assists with admissions by:
- Conducting applicant pre-screening and interviews as well as orientation sessions, tours and information sessions

Evaluating applicants for entry into the program
Assists with the development of fieldwork placements by:

Recommending possible placements and employers to students
-
Ensuring all goals and assignments are completed
-
Conducting mock interviews and providing feedback to students
-
Assist with student orientation to placement as required

Liaising between student/site supervisor and provide learning assistance to the student
Assisting with the continued success of the CICE Program by:
- Promoting the program to internal and external stakeholders
-
Tracking/filing and recording program documents and other pertinent program information for future reference by staff

Meeting with faculty periodically to review protocol and discuss new or revised approaches to support students’ learning needs
Qualifications:
-
A minimum of a 2-year diploma/advanced diploma in one of the following: Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Care, Social Service Worker, Educational Assistant or Early Childhood Education.

A minimum of 5-years of work experience with persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities, or significant learning challenges and experience in a teaching/tutoring environment.

Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite as well as utilizing online resources and conducting internet research.

The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Tact, integrity, diplomacy and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Excellent and demonstrated problem solving, troubleshooting and conflict resolution skills.

Must be self-directed, motivated with strong organizational and time management skills.
