Purpose
Leads and oversees Accounting Team in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Responsible for the delivery of process innovation and continuous improvement initiatives across multi-jurisdictions and play an important role in helping foster a culture of sustainable change
What you will be doing
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Review and understand the current Trade Finance Operational and Accounting processes and identify gaps in accounting processes and controls.
- Implement accounting process improvement & accounting controls to mitigate risk
- Review and improve daily and monthly reporting. Develop reporting as required
- Responsible for escalation of long outstanding items.
- Identify unreconciled position in GLs.
- Document accurately trade finance & supply chain finance accounting processes in the Standard Operating Practice, as and when updated.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What you bring
• University Undergraduate Degree in Finance or business-related studies or equivalent.
- Strong working knowledge of Bank’s AML and Compliance policies
- Advance computer skills, particularly MS Office Suite - Excel, Access, Word, Power Point, etc.
Working Conditions
• Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
