Summary

The Indigenous Primary Health Care Council (IPHCC) is seeking a Manager, Traditional Wellness & Reconciliation to provide strategic leadership for Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS), traditional healing, and reconciliation-based initiatives grounded in the Anishinaabe Mino’Ayaawin – People in Good Health framework.

This leadership role is responsible for visioning, strategy, governance, and accountability for IPHCC’s Traditional Wellness and Reconciliation portfolio, including ICS curriculum, training programs, resources, and the SafeSpace Network. The Manager leads program direction, partnerships, and evaluation, while supervising and supporting Coordinators responsible for program implementation and delivery.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

Providing strategic leadership and vision for Indigenous Cultural Safety and traditional wellness programming

Leading the integration of Anishinaabe Mino’Ayaawin across departmental initiatives

Managing program planning, budgets, reporting, and evaluation

Supervising and mentoring Coordinators and project staff

Leading high-level partnerships with Indigenous leaders, healthcare system partners, and funders

Providing oversight and accountability for the SafeSpace Network

Required Core Capabilities

Providing strategic leadership and vision for Indigenous Cultural Safety and traditional wellness programming

Leading the integration of Anishinaabe Mino’Ayaawin across departmental initiatives

Managing program planning, budgets, reporting, and evaluation

Supervising and mentoring Coordinators and project staff

Leading high-level partnerships with Indigenous leaders, healthcare system partners, and funders

Providing oversight and accountability for the SafeSpace Network

Technical Skills/Qualifications

Post-secondary degree in Indigenous Studies, Health, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field, or equivalent lived and professional experience

Significant experience in Indigenous health, wellness, cultural safety, or reconciliation-focused programming

Demonstrated leadership, people management, and strategic planning experience

Strong understanding of Ontario’s healthcare system and Indigenous health contexts

This role offers an opportunity to shape system-level change while honouring Indigenous knowledge systems and community priorities.

Work Conditions and Physical Demands

This position may be performed virtually or from one of IPHCC’s office locations, including Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, Six Nations of the Grand River, or Batchewana First Nation.

Mental Effort

Periods of sustained concentration, critical thinking, planning, analysis, writing, review, and decision-making.

Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous priorities with competing deadlines.

Capacity to navigate complex organizational, political, cultural, and system-level issues with professionalism and sound judgement.

Frequent collaboration and relationship management involving sensitive, confidential, or high-profile matters.

Physical Effort

Regular travel throughout Ontario, including periods of increased travel to member sites, meetings, gatherings, and system events.

Sitting for extended periods and regular use of computer and office technology.

Ability to facilitate meetings and presentations, with occasional extended hours to meet organizational requirements.
