R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is seeking a Senior Municipal Infrastructure & Peer Review Engineer.
This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to play a key role in delivering both infrastructure projects and carrying out development application peer reviews for municipalities while helping to expand and shape our growing practice. The ideal candidate will bring experience in land development, subdivision design, and/or municipal infrastructure, and will be interested in technical excellence, mentorship, and business growth.
Your Role
You will take a lead role in managing and delivering development peer review and/or municipal infrastructure engineering services, while supporting strategic growth. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and conducting peer review of development applications and engineering designs (subdivisions, site plans, planning applications, etc.)
- Acting as a trusted advisor to municipal clients, developers, and internal cross-discipline project teams
- Managing the full lifecycle of development agreements, including subdivision, site plan, and pre-servicing agreements
- Facilitating technical review meetings with municipalities, developers, and multidisciplinary teams
- Leading the design and project management of municipal infrastructure projects (roads, water, wastewater, stormwater) from planning through construction
- Take responsibility for design including signing and sealing reports and drawings for municipal infrastructure projects
- Coordinating design teams, directing engineers and technicians, and ensuring quality in reports, tender packages, drawings, and cost estimates
- Contributing to business development efforts, including expanding services with lower-tier municipalities
- Playing a key role in mentoring staff and building a team over time
What You Bring
We are open to diverse backgrounds within municipal engineering and development.
Required:
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario
- 10+ years of experience in land development engineering and/or municipal infrastructure design
- Experience managing projects, clients, and internal cross-discipline team
What Will Make You Stand Out:
- Experience with peer review or working on behalf of municipalities
- Strong knowledge of development approvals and construction processes
- Experience preparing and negotiating development agreements
- Experience in the planning and detailed design of municipal linear infrastructure, including roads, water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems
- Project management skills, including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and change management
- A desire to take on client-facing responsibilities and/or technical leadership
Salary Range: $135,000 - $160,000
The final compensation offered will be based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and market conditions.
