Role Overview:

To provide learning support for exceptional students; working with faculty to manage the needs of exceptional students.

The special education teacher will be a core homeroom teacher providing lessons to a small group of diverse learners.

The Role and Responsibilities:

· Teaching individuals or small groups of students within the classroom

· Preparing lessons and resources

· Modeling and teaching social-emotional learning strategies

· Developing and manage student success plans (IEPs) in collaboration with administration and Learning Strategists

· Experience with diagnostic assessments, remedial and booster programs

· Experience and expertise in reading and interpreting psycho-educational reports and writing IEPs

· Knowledge of strategies and tools to individualize learning

· Participate in cocurricular activities

· Communicate effectively and timely with administrative team, teachers, and parents

· Share information about individual student learning with parents in report cards and interviews

· Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Attributes

· An understanding of students with exceptional needs

· Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking and decision making skills.

· Demonstrated organization and analytical skills.

· Ability to work independently, as well as part of the teaching team.

· Ability to work flexibly and to adapt in a constantly changing and thriving environment.

· Qualifications in Special Education preferred

· Interest and passion to work with primary aged students

· Demonstrated talent for teaching, coaching, mentoring and inspiring students

· Proven ability to develop smooth, collaborative working relationships with parents and colleagues

· Evidence of strong written and oral communication and organizational skills

· Experience using differentiated instructional strategies, learning strategies and assistive technologies

· Ontario Teacher’s Certificate and membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Starting Date: August 31, 2026
