Geotech Ltd. (www.geotech.ca) is a global leader in airborne geophysical exploration, specializing in advanced electromagnetic, magnetic, radiometric, and gravity systems.
We’re seeking a Technical Support Engineer to join our engineering and field operations team.
This full-time role combines electronics, instrumentation, and applied geophysics, supporting airborne systems including VTEM, ZTEM (AFMAG), Magnetics, Spectrometer, and Gravity.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable troubleshooting electronics on the bench, assisting field crews in remote environments, and reviewing geophysical data to identify equipment-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, inspect, test, and calibrate system components (PCBs, consoles, sensors, cables, power modules, IMUs, etc.).
- Perform bench and flight testing of airborne EM and magnetic/gravity/spectrometer systems.
- Monitor and analyze survey data to verify system performance, identify noise sources, and distinguish between equipment malfunctions and natural signals.
- Provide remote and on-site technical support to field crews, including troubleshooting and system repair.
- Maintain system inventory, prepare equipment for shipment, and document system configurations.
- Collaborate with engineers and geophysicists on system upgrades, prototype validation, and data quality improvements.
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma or degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or Geophysics.
- Knowledge of electromagnetic theory (time- and frequency-domain) and its application to airborne systems.
- Familiarity with magnetometer, AFMAG, spectrometer, and gravity instrumentation.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret geophysical data for system diagnostics.
- Hands-on experience in electronics assembly, soldering, wiring, and use of test instruments (oscilloscope, signal generator, multimeter).
- Ability to read and understand schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams.
- Familiarity with Geosoft Oasis Montaj.
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Available for domestic and international travel on short notice.
Preferred Assets
- Experience with airborne or ground geophysical systems (EM, Mag, Gravity, or Spectrometer).
- Linux, PC104, microcontroller, and C/C++ experience.
- Knowledge of calibration, noise testing, and data correlation techniques.
- Ability to work effectively in field conditions with minimal supervision.
