The YMCA of Greater Toronto is looking to hire dedicated and passionate Child Care professionals to join our growing YMCA team in East York.
We operate licensed child care centres and before & after school programs at the following East York locations:

- R.H. McGregor YMCA Child Care Centre, 555 Mortimer Avenue, East York, M4J 2G9
- George Webster YMCA Child Care Centre, 50 Chapman Avenue, East York, M4B 1C5
- Secord YMCA Before & After School Program, 91 Barrington Avenue, East York, M4C 4Y9

Supply: Candidates must have at least three days of availability to work weekly (Monday to Friday) from 7:00am to 6:00pm. The ability to respond to last minute shift requests and the flexibility to embrace the unpredictability of on-call work; The ability to travel to a variety of centres and work with all age groups is essential. Hours are not guaranteed and can be 0-37.5 hours weekly. Opportunities to work morning, split shifts, and full day shifts also arise.
Part Time Hourly: Part-time positions may exist in our child care centres or in our before and after school programs. Require a Monday to Friday commitment with availability to work from at least 2:00-6:00pm. Depending on centre needs, hours may range up to 7.5 hours daily, and positions may be permanent or contract.
Split Shift Salaried: Split shift salaried staff (in our before and after school programs) must have availability to work every day, Monday to Friday, between 7:00-9:00am AND 2:00-6:00pm to be considered for a position. Positions may be 10 month (Sept to June) or 12 month (year round). Guaranteed 6 hours of work per day (30 hours per week).

Nature and Scope
YMCA Child & Family Development has provided quality child care in the GTA for over 50 years, and is the largest not-for-profit provider of Licensed Child Care in Canada. With more than 300 locations, we offer a variety of programs for children 0-12 years of age: Early Learning and Care (Infant, Toddler, Preschool, and Nursery); Before and After School Care (Kindergarten and School Age); and Family Support programs.
The contribution of our staff in the delivery of child-centred programs is at the core of our success as a leader in early childhood education. We are committed to providing staff with the opportunity to further develop the knowledge and skills that will assist them in enhancing the experience of children and families, through our YMCA Playing to Learn and YMCA A Place to Connect curricula.
The YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum for 0-6 year olds, endorsed by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, helps children develop and grow by using play as a way to learn. This method gives our early childhood educators insight into how kids learn, which we use to build a dynamic in-class environment to meet the specific needs of the child and ensure the child’s interests help shape their learning experience.
The YMCA A Place to Connect curriculum for 6-12 year olds in YMCA Before and After School programs provides staff with the knowledge and skills to act as a mentor towards the children and help them develop life skills. This curriculum also helps shape YMCA Day Camps, Summer Club, and Overnight Camps.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality compassionate care and support to children and their families
- Build positive relationships with children and seek opportunities to deepen connections with parents and families keeping them up to date on their child’s progress
- Be a creative play partner who is actively engaged with the children and makes learning fun
- Independently ensure the safety and supervisor of children at all times. This role may include periods of sole responsibility for a group of children without other educators present, in accordance with licensing requirements
- Understand and comply with provincial (CCEYA), municipal and YMCA policies and procedures
- Observe and expand on children’s learning opportunities and complete required documentation of children’s development and interactions.
- Listen to and respond to children’s needs which includes diapering and assisting children with toileting
- Works collaboratively with a team child care program to support an inclusive environment for children with developmental and behavioural special needs, while also ensuring the program’s needs are being fulfilled
- Clean and sanitize child care spaces, toys and equipment; Prepare and serve food following YMCA health and safety protocols and procedures
- Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services
- Attend required curriculum training and professional development opportunities. Maintain qualifications and certifications as required by the YMCA and provincial standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Registered Early Childhood Educator Qualifications:
- Early Childhood Educator Diploma
- Must be registered and a member in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
Early Learning Facilitator Qualifications:
- Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers or;
- Diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care from a publicly funded college or university in Ontario or;
- Diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure Services from a publicly funded college or university in Ontario
Early Childhood Assistant Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Experience working with children in a child care or before and after school setting an asset
General Qualifications:
- Minimum of six months’ experience working with children. Demonstrated experience leading, supervising and engaging children in structured program environment, including managing routines, transitions and guiding age-appropriate behaviour.
Travel: Split Shift positions require the ability to commute to and from the work location twice daily, typically in the morning and afternoon (Example: 7:00am to 9:00am and 2:00pm to 6:00pm). Candidates must be able to reliably commute twice daily as a part of their regular schedule.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification OR Intermediate First Aid and CPR level C certification issued by a WSIB approved provider prior to the first day of work
- Up-to-date immunizations required by Public Health
- Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending and stooping; picking up a child
- Ability to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold
- Flexibility and adaptability regarding assigned working hours
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
- Applicants are required to be a minimum of 18 years of age or older as per Ministry guidelines
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
Successful candidates will be required to provide the following prior to first day of work:
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification issued by a WSIB approved Provider as follows:
Standard First Aid and CPR C (if certification was completed prior to June 22, 2026),
OR
Intermediate First Aid and CPR C (effective June 22, 2026 and onward)
- Successful completion of Police Records Check within 6 months of hire date
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB test
Salary & Benefits
