About the Role
Our client, a precious metals recovery and refining operation in Markham, ON, is seeking a Sweeps Operator to support material recovery processes. This role involves collecting, sorting, and processing "sweeps" (dust, debris, and residual material containing precious metals) from production areas. This is physically demanding, industrial work performed in an environment with dust, fumes, and strict safety controls — candidates should carefully review the requirements below before applying.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate sweeping/vacuum equipment to collect precious-metal-bearing dust and debris from floors, equipment, and production areas
- Sort, bag, weigh, and transport collected material following chain-of-custody procedures
- Perform routine cleaning of production floors, hoods, and equipment surfaces
- Operate or assist with mechanical sweepers, shop vacuums, or pneumatic recovery systems
- Follow strict material handling and security protocols (precious metals environment)
- Maintain accurate logs of material collected and processed
- Perform general housekeeping and janitorial-style duties in an industrial setting
- Report equipment malfunctions and safety hazards immediately
Physical Requirements (Please Read Carefully)
- Lifting: Must be able to regularly lift and carry 25–50 lbs, and occasionally more (bags, drums, or containers of material)
- Respiratory Protection: This role requires wearing a respirator/mask for extended periods throughout the shift. Employees must be clean-shaven where required for proper respirator seal and will undergo a respirator fit test and medical clearance as a condition of employment
- Standing/Walking: Continuous standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for the full shift
- Environment: Exposure to dust, particulates, and industrial noise; PPE (respirator, gloves, safety glasses, steel-toed boots) required at all times in designated areas
- Repetitive Motion: Frequent bending, scooping, sweeping, and lifting motions
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, refining, mining, or industrial cleaning environment preferred
- Comfortable working in PPE (respirator/mask) for a full shift — this is not optional or occasional
- Ability to pass a physical/fit-for-duty exam and respirator medical clearance
- Reliable attendance and ability to work in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment
- Must be reliably able to commute to Markham, ON for morning shift start
- High school diploma/GED preferred but not required

Pay: $17.60-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32.0 – 48.0 per week
