OVERVIEW

The Patient Blood Management (PBM)Coordinator in collaboration with the Surgery Health Service and the Transfusion Committee uses advanced knowledge and skills to provide optimal care for patients anticipating possible transfusion. The PBM Coordinator works in partnership with physicians, professional staff, patients and families to develop a comprehensive blood management program which meets the needs of the community, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements for the administration of blood and blood products and promotes best practices in blood management . The focus of this role is perioperative blood management in patients identified as anemic and iron deficient .

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent preferred.
Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse (RN) required.

QUALIFICATIONS

-A minimum of five years related clinical experience as a Registered Nurse. Experience in PBM preferred. -Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of multiple software programs including MICROSOFT (word,excel, powerpoint)

Demonstrated expertise in data collection required
Demonstrated experience in IV insertion
Participation on relevant internal and external committees and groups an asset
Demonstrated skills in staff/patient education and the ability to apply adult teaching/learningprinciples.
Excellent organizational skills to assess, plan, design, implement and evaluate adult educational programs.
Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to function as a team member and foster team principles.
Ability to anticipate and resolve problems in a collaborative and/or independent manner, as appropriate.
Demonstrated ability to function autonomously.
