Hours: Full Time - 40 Hours Per Week
Job Summary:
The School Site Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the before and after school child care program. They ensure a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves mentoring staff, observing programs, and fostering strong relationships with school partners, child care staff, and families. Flexibility in daily hours is required to accommodate program needs.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations of the programs at the centre
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and policies.
- Maintain effective communication with staff, families, and external agencies.
- Support and mentor educators, staff, and volunteers.
- Handle administrative duties such as budgeting, enrollment tracking, and reporting.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for continuous improvement.
- Adapt to varying schedules as needed to support staff and program requirements.
Duty Statements:
- Oversee daily operations and ensure smooth functioning.
- Ensure compliance with licensing requirements and regional criteria.
- Maintain full enrollment and oversee financial matters (fees, budget, purchases).
- Handle scheduling, staff ratios, and administrative tasks.
- Ensure the centre’s cleanliness and organization.
- Supervise, support, and evaluate staff
- Conduct orientations and training.
- Schedule and lead staff meetings.
- Monitor staff performance and address conflicts.
- Recognize and encourage staff achievements.
- Maintain strong relationships with families, staff, and the community.
- Provide regular reports to the Program Manager and Executive Director.
- Ensure compliance with policies and keep records up to date.
Job Specifications:
Education/Qualifications:
- Must hold a diploma in Early Childhood Education from an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology or recognized equivalent qualifications.
- Requires a clear understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act & Durham Regional Operating Criteria.
- Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of the centre’s policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of child development and early learning principles.
Experience:
- Must have 2 years of experience as an Early Childhood Educator in a child care setting or related environment.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail in compliance monitoring and documentation.
- Willingness to be flexible in working hours.
- Ability to effectively communicate with families, staff, and community partners.
- Demonstrates skills working as a team player.
Supervisor Essential Duties:
- Supervise, support, and mentor educators, staff, and volunteers.
- Ensure child care programs meet all licensing and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain open and regular communication with program staff.
- Uphold regular communication with families.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and centre events.
- Assist in ensuring staff remain informed about any changes to policies and procedures of the centre.
- Comply with the organization’s policies and procedures related to Durham Public Health & Ministry of Education.
RECE Essential Duties :
- Responsible for the constant supervision, safety and well being of the children
- Acknowledges and responds to the needs of each child
- Uses a variety of teaching techniques including role modeling, observing, questioning
- Ability to develop and implement a program that follows the lead of the children and creates an inclusive and stimulating environment to encourage each child to explore and learn on various topics of interest.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and written
- Demonstrates skills working as a team player
- Upholds regular communication with families
- Ensure the classroom operates in compliance with childcare licencing standards
- Maintains and ensures all records including but not limited to attendance, accidents reports, daily programming are completed on a daily basis
