Community Centre 55 offers various children’s programs including: Toddler, Preschool, Nursery School & Jr. Enrichment (2 ½ -4 yrs), Before, Lunch & After School for children JK-Grade 5.
All programs with the exception of Toddler and Preschool operate on the same schedule as the Toronto District School Board closing; March Break, Summer and Christmas as well as all statutory holidays as laid out by the City of Toronto (CUPE 2998).
Child care programs at Centre 55 adhere to all licensing requirements and guidelines as set out by the Ministry of Education in the Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA), the City of Toronto’s Children Services Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI), and Toronto Public Health.
Job description
RECE staff will be responsible for the delivery of a program based on Ontario’s Pedagogy for the early years ‘How Does Learning Happen?’ for children age 18 months-12 years old following the Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA), Children’s Services Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI), Community Centre 55 & ChildLP Policies and Procedures. Community Centre 55 are the employer and operate several childcare sites, employees maybe requested to work at any given location performing the duties and accepting the responsibilities including but not limited to what is listed in this job description.
Terms and Conditions of Employment:
Strict adherence to all Policies and Protocols as laid out by;
- Toddler and Preschool Program: Between 7:00 am - 6:00 pm; 7 - 7.5 hours per day
- the Ministry of Educations - Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA) including Legal Duty to Report
- Children’s Services Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI)
- Toronto Public Health (TPH)
- Community Centre 55
- College of Early Childhood Educators Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice including dual relationships and Social media practices
- Directly responsible for the care, safety & supervision of the children at all times.
- The Licensed Programs (4 Sites) operate between 7:00 am & 6:00 pm Monday –Friday hours will fall within that parameter
and
- any other regulatory agency that pertains to paid employment at a licensed childcare facility.
Job Functions:
- Mandatory and immediate visual health check of children as they enter care; declining children that exhibit symptoms of illness following the ‘Exclusion Policy’
- Mandatory and immediate verificationof each child as they are signed in/out by an adult as per CCEYA & AQI
- Directly responsible for the care, safety & supervision of the children at all times
- Directly responsible for mentoring all staff, volunteers, students & parents adhere to Policies, Protocols & guidelines
- Completes all regulated documentation/reports/check lists as per CCEYA, AQI, TPH and Community Centre 55
- Ensures that all children are adequately nourished and that any special dietary restrictions/requirements are known and followed without exception.
- Knowledge, leadership skills designing, developing and incorporating the learning experiences designed to meet the individual needs of the children and implementing such a program following Ontario’s Pedagogy for the early years, ‘How Does Learning Happen’ submitting program plans in a timely manner to the Site Supervisor.
- Demonstrates enjoyment in playing with children and viewing them as competent, capable of complex thinking, curious and rich in potential.
- Provides input on the assessment of group and individual progress for the evaluation of programs to meet developmental and cultural needs of children, by documented observations of children's progress and behaviour. Completing developmental profiles and progress charts as required. Identifies special needs requesting resource services when necessary.
- Responds to parent/designated family members/school staff enquiries regarding children's progress, behaviour, and health.
- Ensures all children, staff, volunteers and students follow proper hygiene habits as laid out by Toronto Public Health
- Contacts parents re: child’s illness/accident, recording accident/ illness and reporting communicable diseases to Site Supervisor.
- Responsible for the safe storage and administration of medications when authorized by a physician maintaining records of all medications administered - returning all empty medication containers upon completion.
- Participates with other staff to ensure the safety and well being of the children, peers, ECA, students & volunteers while in the care or working at any Community Centre 55 location, following all policies and protocols.
- Tear down and set up of all CLP equipment daily including but not limited to heavy lifting (0-40 lbs) ie: tables, chairs, carpets, any equipment, including laundry, sanitizing as required & to be able to stand for long periods of time
- Participates in staff, team meetings & mandatory educational workshops taking and transcribing minutes on a rotational basis.
- Demonstrate excellent written & verbal communication skills, patience, problem - solving, coaching, leading, and motivating children/staff/students & volunteers.
- Ability to converse with peers/parents in a respectful, diplomatic and non-judgmental manner following the Centre’s code of conduct policy.
- Ability to communicate in English fluently & effectively both orally and in writing 2nd language is an asset
- Ability to work in a team, as an individual, as a mentor to students/volunteers/staff.
- Demonstrates the ability to follow instructions working collaboratively with peers and have the confidence to report inconsistencies/discrepancies to the appropriate management personnel in a professional manner
- Ability to be punctual, flexible, responsible, approachable and dependable.
- Ability to follow all directives as given by a superior in a reasonable safe manner
- Use of personal communication devises (cell phones, tablets etc.) while on duty is prohibited unless otherwise approved by the CLP Manager
- Ability to take care of, respect and return (upon request) all Community Centre 55’s property including but not limited to; cell phones, electronic devices, keys, identification labels etc.
- The ability to follow any changing operational guidelines including those pertaining to shut down of any or all locations through no fault of its own.
- Other duties as required based on Operational Requirements.
Qualification of Employment:
The following is to be current at time of hire and be kept in good standing throughout employment at the employee’s expense:
· Graduation with a diploma from an approved program in Early Childhood Education; Candidates with Child Youth Work Diploma/Degree may be considered for the position and employed as Ministry Approved Staff;
· Registration in and a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Education following the code of ethics and standards of practice as set out by the college
· Submission of a registration number
· As per TPH- a pre-placement medical assessment form signed by a medical practitioner stipulating that the required vaccinations are current or a signed affidavit submitted.
· A clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (renewed every 5 years)
· Standard First Aid including infant/child CPR (renewed every 3 years)
· Food Handler Certification (renewed every 5 years)

· Probationary period of 1044 hours worked
· Vacation compensation included in each pay
· Mandatory signing of an annual ‘offence declaration’.
· Duty to report any convictions under the ‘Criminal Code (Canada)’
· Completion of all documentation and orientation training before commencement of work with the children
