Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Pastry Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate will be skilled in creating and decorating a variety of pastries, desserts, and specialty cakes, while also being comfortable interacting with customers, taking special orders, and managing production in a busy kitchen. This role requires creativity, technical precision, and strong time management skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, bake, and decorate cakes, pastries, tarts, and other bakery items according to bakery standards and custom orders.
- Design and create visually stunning custom cakes for special occasions, following client specifications.
- Assemble, fill, ice, and decorate cakes using advanced piping, buttercream blending, and finishing techniques.
- Develop and test new recipes in line with Le Jasmin Bakery’s brand and seasonal menu updates.
- Maintain exceptional quality control, ensuring all products meet taste, texture, and presentation standards.
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting clients, discussing orders, and offering recommendations.
- Manage product displays for maximum appeal and freshness; rotate stock as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment in accordance with food safety regulations.
- Train and guide junior team members or externship students when required.
- Collaborate with the team to meet daily production goals and special order deadlines.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience as a Pastry Chef, Cake Decorator, or similar role in a professional bakery or restaurant.
- Proficiency in cake and pastry decorating techniques, including piping, fondant work, and sugar decorations.
- Strong understanding of color theory for buttercream blending and design coordination.
- Knowledge of a wide variety of icings, including Swiss and American buttercream, ganache, whipped cream, chantilly, fudge icing, and meringues.
- Ability to follow recipes and adjust them for portion or flavor changes.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills; able to work efficiently under pressure.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a small, fast-paced team environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for 6–8 hours and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in varying temperatures (freezers, refrigerators, warm kitchen).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, based on business needs.
