Full Job Summary
We are seeking a vigilant and professional Tactical Retail Security Guard to ensure the safety and security of our retail environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring premises, preventing theft, and maintaining a secure shopping experience for customers and staff. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong observational skills, and the ability to respond effectively to security incidents. Prior security experience is preferred, but character and reliability matter more.
Your duties may include:
- Monitoring store entry and exit points
- Conducting regular foot patrols of the sales floor and back-of-house areas
- Monitoring CCTV systems and reporting suspicious activity
- Responding to shoplifting incidents, disturbances, and emergencies
- Assisting with store opening and closing procedures
- Writing clear and accurate incident reports after every event
- Providing basic crowd management during high-traffic periods
- Coordinating with store management and law enforcement when necessary
This is not a desk job. You will be on your feet for the duration of your shift, staying alert and staying visible. Retail security requires patience — most of the job is presence and observation. But when something does happen, you need to respond quickly, professionally, and within the boundaries of the law.
Shifts vary based on store hours and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. You may be assigned to a single location long-term or rotate between sites depending on client needs. Cedar provides site-specific orientation and ongoing training and support for all employees.
Requirements
- Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence (mandatory)
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C (preferred)
- Clean criminal record (a background check will be conducted)
- Professional appearance and demeanor — you are representing both Cedar and the client
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (8–12 hour shifts)
- Strong observational skills and situational awareness
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write clear incident reports using professional language
- Reliable and punctual — showing up on time, every time, is a baseline expectation
- Previous retail security or customer service experience is preferred but not required
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
