Contract Summary
Reporting to Senior Management, the Hands-On Facilities Supervisor (FS) will perform hands-on work to ensure all sites, systems and equipment impacting our organization’s operations are functioning effectively and safely.
The FS will complete basic physical upkeep, maintenance and repair tasks across all sites, and pursue solutions when external expertise is required, to keep our sites operational, safe and accessible to community and employees. This role calls for hands-on experience, knowledge and skill related to building systems, building regulations and general maintenance, as well as a handy, resourceful, detail-oriented and thoughtful approach to facilities upkeep. The successful candidate must be a clear communicator, a logical decision-maker and an excellent problem-solver.
Key Tasks and Requirements:
· Complete physical tasks (those not requiring trades certification) across all sites to keep centre spaces operational, safe and accessible to community and employees.
· Assess physical and technical requirements and strategies, as appropriate to meet applicable regulations and internal expectations.
· Pursue informed solutions when external expertise is required.
· Oversee work by trades/contractors including renovations, moves and relocations when required.
· Develop and maintain knowledge on current systems and equipment across sites to support informed upkeep.
· Familiarity and willingness to research relevant laws, regulations, policies, and procedures that pertain to sites, systems and equipment, to make useful recommendations and inform responsible decision-making
· Maintain an efficient, transparent internal work order system and address the work requested/required, with consideration for risk, priority, cost, labour requirements, timeline, etc.
· Seek appropriate approvals to complete outstanding work by providing the appropriate data and contextual assessments to inform sound decision-making for the organization.
· Address physical plant emergencies and support appropriate management responses to urgent safety and security concerns.
· Undertake building and grounds maintenance and supervise workers contributing to cleaning and maintenance tasks.
· Manage disposal tasks across sites.
· Fill gaps in regular cleaning duties and perform deeper level cleaning work as required.
· Prepare and inform reports as required.
· Represent the centre by interacting cordially and compassionately with community members, staff, volunteers, partners, vendors and all collaborators in the performance of work duties.
· Any other duties as required to contribute to the creation and maintenance of clean, beautiful, safe and efficient sites
Desired Qualifications:
· Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience in a commercial environment performing basic physical site upkeep tasks, maintenance and repairs that don’t require trades certification to perform safely
· Minimum 5 years’ working with tradespeople to maintain mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, HVAC, etc. in compliance with related regulations.
· Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience
· Technical training in building maintenance, Community College diploma or University Degree in Property/Facilities Management or related field is a definite asset
· Ability to use handheld tools, power tools, general equipment for building maintenance
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, operate vehicles
· Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, operate groundskeeping tools
· Valid Class-G driver's license in good standing and regular access to a personal vehicle required (mileage provided to cover gas and percentage of vehicle wear/tear).
· Familiarity with commercial buildings erected in the 70s is an asset
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office 360, Outlook, general digital admin tools is required
· Familiarity with the Warden Woods community and Southwest Scarborough is a definite asset.
· A clear Criminal Reference Check is required for this role.
· Must be eligible to work legally in Canada.
Compensation and Hours of Work:
· Hourly Rate: $34.00
· Hours: 21 hours per week required, divided between 3 weekdays
· Flexibility to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends
· Flexibility to respond to site emergencies as required
