Full job description

We have been a family-run company since 1928 based in Whitby, Ontario, specializing in transportation and logistics services. We are currently seeking an experienced and skilled flatbed truck driver to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a well-established and supportive environment with a company that values its employees' contributions.

Responsibilities:

Safely transport heavy and over dimensional flatbed loads to assigned destinations across Ontario and occasionally neighboring provinces, ensuring on-time delivery.
Secure cargo using straps, chains, and occasionally tarps, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer, reporting any defects or mechanical issues to the maintenance department.
Adhere to all provincial and federal transportation regulations, including hours of service, weight restrictions, and traffic laws.
Interact professionally with customers, dispatchers, and colleagues to ensure efficient communication and customer satisfaction.
Complete all necessary paperwork and electronic logs accurately and in a timely manner.
Load and unload cargo using equipment such as forklifts or cranes, while following proper loading and unloading procedures.
Maintain a clean and organized truck and trailer, ensuring a professional appearance at all times.
Follow all company policies and procedures, including those relating to health and safety.
Attend regular safety meetings and training sessions to remain up-to-date with industry best practices and relevant regulations.

Qualifications:

Valid Class A commercial driver's license with a clean driving record.
Must possess a minimum of 3 years of verifiable driving experience.
Flatbed experience is preferred, but willingness to learn is mandatory.
Solid knowledge of applicable transportation regulations and laws.
Ability to operate flatbed trailers with various configurations and dimensions.
Proficient in securing cargo using straps, chains, and tarps.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
Attention to detail combined with the ability to work efficiently and independently.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekends and long hauls.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry heavy loads (up to 50 pounds).
Ability to climb ladders, bend, stoop, and reach in order to secure cargo and perform inspections.
Strong visual acuity and depth perception for safe driving and maneuvering of vehicles.
Ability to start early and work long hours within accordance of the HTA
