Our client, a high-volume, North American automotive design/manufacturer is seeking a Licensed Electrician (442A) to join its Oshawa, ON team. This position operates on a 2-week rotation of days & afternoon shifts.
The Job:
Installs, repairs, troubleshoots, and replaces electrical equipment and electrical components in regards to building, machinery, and equipment. Performs operational, predictive and preventative electrical maintenance duties while adhering to the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Canadian Electrical Code.
1.Protect self and others by:
- Identifying, interpreting and applying applicable Acts, regulations, codes and directives
- Recognizing, assessing and controlling hazards and hazardous conditions, equipment and material
- Identifying and using fire extinguishers and firefighting equipment
- Performing housekeeping duties to ensure a safe working environment
- Practicing first aid in emergency situations with certified CPR.
- Selecting, wearing, adjusting, using and maintaining personal protective apparel and equipment
- Performing lockout, tagging and hold-off procedures.
2. Read, interpret and revise schematics, drawings and documentation by creating, maintaining or modifying existing drawings and sketches as well as by identifying, reading and interpreting:
- Architectural drawings and specifications
- Mechanical drawings and specifications
- Power distribution drawings and specifications
- Instrumentation and communication drawings and specifications
- Electrical drawings and specifications
- Solid state and logic drawings and specifications.
3. Select, maintain and use tools and equipment including:
- Hand tools
- Electrical power tools and accessories
- Rigging and hoisting equipment
- Scaffolds, lifting devices and elevating platforms
4. Also responsible for assembling, erecting and locating scaffolds, lifting devices and elevating platforms; dismantling and storing scaffolds, lifting devices and elevating platforms; selecting and performing basic oxy-fuel cutting and welding procedures; and scheduling electrical job-site material and equipment requirements.
5. Install, maintain and repair wiring systems by:
- Selecting and installing busway systems for rural, institutional, commercial and industrial installations
- Maintaining and repairing busway systems for rural, institutional, commercial and industrial installations
- Selecting, laying out and installing:
- Branch circuit wiring for power and lighting (as well as troubleshooting)
- Cable trays for power, data and communication cable wiring systems
- Feeder cables for single and multi conductor cables, metallic and non-metallic
- Rigid metal and rigid PVC conduits
- Electric heating systems
- Wiring for hazardous locations
- Overhead distribution systems
- Underground distribution systems
6. Select, install, maintain and troubleshoot power distribution equipment systems which includes:
- Secondary services
- High voltage protection and control
- Calculating the requirements for secondary service loads, fuses and feeders
- Power distribution panels
- Ground fault circuit interrupters
- Power factor correction equipment
- Low voltage power distribution systems
- Direct current power distribution
- AC/DC protective devices
7. Select, install, maintain and troubleshoot lighting systems which includes:
- Incandescent lighting
- Fluorescent lighting
- High intensity discharge lighting
- Light dimming and control systems
- Exit and emergency lighting
8. Install, maintain and troubleshoot rotating equipment and associated control systems which includes the following:
- Brush assemblies, slip rings and commutators
- DC motors and generators
- AC motors and generators
- Electrical alignment and auxiliary protective equipment
- Mechanical, electrical alignment and auxiliary protective equipment
- Lubrication systems
- Braking and clutch systems
- Starting-up and shutting-down rotating equipment
- Relays, solid state devices and controls
- Relays, solid state devices and controls
- Protective devices
- Wiring control panels, enclosures and control devices
- Field devices such as mechanical/remote field services.
9. Install, maintain and troubleshoot motor drives and associated control systems which includes:
- DC constant voltage drives; installing
- Solid state variable DC drives
- AC constant voltage drives
- Solid state and variable AC drives
- Computer based interface systems
- Logic controller systems
- Computerized numerical control systems
- Robotic systems.
10. Install, maintain and troubleshoot stand-by power systems and associated equipment by laying out:
- Uninterruptible power supply systems
- Battery stand-by systems
- Stand-by power generation equipment.
11. Install, maintain and troubleshoot communication systems which include:
- Communication cables
- Alarm systems
- Communication system components
- Audio-visual systems
- Patient care systems
- Security systems
- Page systems
- Clock system
- Automation systems
12. Select, maintain and operate test and measuring equipment which include:
- Power and energy metering equipment
- Analog and digital multimeters
- Electronic test equipment
- Insulation testers
- Oscilloscopes
- Fault locators
- High voltage test equipment
- Computer-based test equipment
- Chart records
- Electrical test equipment
- Special test equipment.
13. Install, maintain, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation devices and systems.
Requirements:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Must hold valid Ontario Certification of Qualification issued by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities OR
- Served a bona fide apprenticeship of 9,000 hours, electrical license or who has 8 years practical experience in the skilled trades classification in which he/she claims journeyperson designation and can prove same. (The Unifor Journey person's card will be accepted as proof.) or presently holds a journeyman's classification as an electrician, construction and maintenance or as an industrial electrician.
- Ability to meet all physical demands of the job including, but not limited to, heavy lifting, working in confined spaces, standing for long periods of time, working in hot and cold environments, rotating shifts.
