Residential Project Consultant / Estimator
LOCAL HANDYMAN FRASER VALLEY
Part-Time Field-Based
At Local Handyman, we are in the people business first and the handyman business second. From the very first phone call through to the final walkthrough, our job is to give homeowners, property managers, realtors, and strata managers a professional, trustworthy, and caring experience.
Every member of our team is expected to live our core value — We Care:
- We care about our customers.
- We care about our team.
- We care about the quality of our work.
- We care about doing the right thing — every time.
We are looking for an Estimator who shares those values and wants to help us keep building the most trusted handyman company in the Fraser Valley.
About the Role
This is a part-time, field-based role for an experienced trades professional who knows residential construction inside and out — and would rather put that knowledge to work advising homeowners than swinging a hammer all day.
You’ll be the trusted face of Local Handyman in our customers’ homes: meeting clients on-site, understanding what they really need, building accurate scopes of work, and preparing estimates that help them move forward with confidence.
The work centres on a high volume of smaller residential and light commercial projects — typically ranging from $500 to $50,000 — rather than a handful of large commercial bids. If you take pride in honest advice, tidy detail, and treating people right, you’ll fit in well here.
Where You’ll Work
This role serves the communities of Langley, Surrey, White Rock, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, and Maple Ridge.
Is This You?
This role is an excellent fit for a seasoned professional who:
- Has spent years — maybe decades — in construction, renovation, or the trades, and has the eye to scope a job accurately on sight.
- Wants the flexibility of part-time hours and a schedule that fits the life they’ve built.
- Would rather use their experience and judgment than the physical wear and tear of full days on the tools.
- Enjoys meeting people, building trust quickly, and being the calm, knowledgeable voice a homeowner is glad they called.
- Takes pride in doing things properly and being part of a brand that does the right thing.
If you’ve built a career’s worth of know-how and want to keep it in motion on your own terms, we’d love to hear from you.
What You’ll Be Doing
First Point of Contact
- Respond to incoming calls and email inquiries from prospective and existing customers.
- Ask the right questions to understand the scope, needs, and urgency of each project.
- Schedule on-site consultations at times that work for the customer.
Client Consultations
- Meet clients on-site, assess repair and renovation needs, and conduct property inspections.
- Take accurate measurements, photos, and detailed notes during every visit.
- Build trust and confidence and recommend the right solution for the customer.
Qualifying the Opportunity
Not every lead should become an estimate. You’ll protect company time and profitability by:
- Understanding customer expectations and budget realities.
- Assessing project fit and urgency and identifying ideal clients.
- Respectfully disqualifying poor-fit opportunities when appropriate.
Estimating
- Develop detailed scopes of work and calculate labour and materials.
- Coordinate subcontractor pricing when required and maintain company margin standards.
- Identify upsell opportunities through thorough inspections.
- Create professional estimates that align with Local Handyman standards.
Presenting & Closing
- Clearly explain the estimate and scope of work, and answer customer questions.
- Follow up with leads, provide revisions where needed, and help close the sale.
Housecall Pro Management
A major part of this role is making sure every estimate is properly built in Housecall Pro, including:
- Proper line-item setup and accurate pricing.
- Detailed scope descriptions, photo documentation, and internal notes.
- Change order preparation and clean record-keeping.
Supporting the Team
- Work closely with Operations and support our field technicians.
- Clarify scopes before work begins to reduce change orders and job confusion — and improve project profitability.
What You Bring
Required
- Strong residential construction knowledge, with experience across repairs, renovations, and maintenance projects.
- Solid estimating experience — your years in the trade are exactly what we’re looking for.
- Excellent customer communication skills and a professional, approachable manner.
- A valid BC Driver’s Licence and a clean driving record.
- Reliable, organized, and comfortable balancing field visits with follow-up work.
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- Experience in handyman services or renovation estimating.
- Experience working with property managers or realtors.
- Experience with Housecall Pro or other estimating software.
Comfortable with Technology
You don’t need to be an IT expert, but you should be comfortable using a phone, tablet, and software in the field, and willing to learn our systems. Strong attention to detail and a willingness to follow established processes matter most. Experience with Housecall Pro is a real plus.
What We Offer
- Flexible, part-time hours that fit your life.
- Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement for site visits.
- Company phone and a technology package for the field.
- Thorough onboarding and ongoing support from a team that values your expertise.
- A respectful, people-first culture where doing the right thing comes first.
What Success Looks Like
- Estimates turned around quickly — ideally within 24 hours of the site visit.
- A healthy close rate on the right-fit opportunities you take on.
- Accurate scopes that lead to minimal change orders and callbacks.
- Customers who feel well cared for and speak highly of their experience.
- Estimates that consistently meet our quality and margin standards.
