Universal Rail Solutions Inc. is seeking an Operations Manager to provide day to day leadership, oversee project execution, and drive safety, quality, scheduling, and financial performance across their division.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager is accountable for the safety, quality, scheduling, and profit & loss performance of projects within their division. This role provides strategic and day to day business leadership to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Universal Rail Solutions Inc. corporate objectives.
Using experience and operational expertise, the Operations Manager directs project teams, mentors leaders, manages risk, and ensures long term objectives are achieved while maintaining strong client relationships.
What You’ll Do
- Direct day to day activities of project teams to meet or exceed project milestones, schedules, and budgets
- Oversee multiple projects at various stages to ensure successful delivery from initiation through close out
- Assist in developing and managing the operating budget, monitoring cost reports and schedules on an ongoing basis
- Plan, direct, and manage all assigned projects to meet company objectives for:
- Customer satisfaction
- Safety
- Quality
- Production
- Revenue and profitability
- Establish project plans defining scope, deliverables, and execution strategy
- Manage procedure execution, equipment, and manpower in collaboration with Project Managers
- Mentor, guide, and coach direct reports through HR processes, including:
- Performance reviews
- Recruitment
- Training and development
- Succession planning
- Promotions and salary increases
- Maintain accountability for the project management system, tools, and personnel from project award through final payment
- Plan, organize, and staff key field positions through department heads and project/construction managers
- Manage financial aspects of contracts to protect company interests and maintain profitability
- Develop and submit corporate reporting within required timelines
- Conduct regular site visits to ensure projects are executed in alignment with corporate goals and contractual requirements
- Develop and implement:
- Quality Management Plans
- Safety Management Plans
- Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, Manufacturing, and Construction plans
- Provide strong leadership by leveraging individual and team strengths
- Support and promote OWS core values of Safety, Quality, Integrity, and Success
What You Bring
- 10+ years of related industry experience in a senior or operations management role
- Demonstrated ability to lead high performing teams and build long term client relationships
- Post secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Solid understanding of:
- Bidding and procurement
- Contracting and negotiations
- Cash flow and cost control
- Transportation and logistics
- Proven ability to anticipate stakeholder needs and develop short and long term solutions
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Sound judgment, critical thinking, and problem solving abilities
- Professional discretion and ability to manage confidential information
