Position Overview
We are seeking dedicated and professional Loss Prevention Officers to join our growing team in Victoria, BC. This is a dynamic role that combines traditional loss prevention duties with our company's core values of compassionate service and community engagement. As a Loss Prevention Officer with Haven Security, you'll be on the front lines of protecting our clients' assets while maintaining a customer-focused approach that aligns with our philosophy of bridging security and consumer relations.
You will be responsible for deterring theft, identifying suspicious behaviour, conducting investigations, and when necessary, apprehending individuals in a safe and legal manner. This position requires excellent judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and composure. You'll work in various retail environments, representing Haven Security's commitment to excellence while building positive relationships with store staff, management, and the community at large.
The ideal candidate understands that effective loss prevention goes beyond enforcement—it requires diplomacy, cultural awareness, and the ability to work with diverse populations, including individuals facing mental health challenges or other unique needs. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct surveillance and monitoring to detect and prevent theft and fraudulent activities
- Apprehend shoplifters and detain suspects in accordance with legal protocols
- Document incidents thoroughly and provide detailed reports
- Collaborate with law enforcement when necessary
- Provide excellent customer service while maintaining a visible security presence
- Respond to emergency situations professionally and effectively
- Assist in training store staff on loss prevention best practices
Required Qualifications
- Valid BC Security License (mandatory)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong observational and decision-making abilities
- Ability to remain calm under pressure
- Physical fitness to perform patrol and apprehension duties
- Clean criminal record and successful background check
- Reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in loss prevention or related security field
- Military or law enforcement background
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Experience working with diverse populations and individuals with unique needs
- Knowledge of local community resources
