Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Laser Operator to join our manufacturing team for the Afternoon Shift. The CNC Laser Operator is responsible for operating computer numerical control laser cutting systems to precisely cut, etch, and perforate metal parts according to specifications.
Responsibilities
- Set up CNC laser cutting systems according to job specifications, including selecting appropriate nozzles, lenses, gases, and adjusting settings, and loading materials such as metal sheets or plates.
- Input program codes or use computer software (e.g., CAD/CAM) to program CNC controls for laser cutting operations, specifying parameters such as cutting speed, power, focal distance, and nesting layouts.
- Load and unload materials onto the laser cutting bed, positioning them accurately for cutting, and adjust material alignment as needed to ensure precise results.
- Operate CNC laser cutting systems to perform cutting, etching, and perforating operations on metal components, following programmed instructions and monitoring the production to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Inspect finished parts for accuracy, dimensional tolerance, and surface quality (e.g., dross, perpendicularity), using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. and make adjustments as necessary to meet specifications.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues with machine operation, tooling (nozzles/lenses), or programming, such as equipment malfunctions, beam misalignment, or material defects. and implement corrective actions to resolve problems and minimize downtime.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), especially laser safety glasses, operating machinery safely, and maintaining a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents and injuries.
