THE CHALLENGE
The Knowledge & Manufacturing Documentation Engineer is responsible for capturing, structuring, and maintaining manufacturing knowledge across the organization to ensure consistent, repeatable, and scalable production. This role transforms engineering designs, assembly processes, and field feedback into clear, controlled documentation and training materials that support shop floor execution.
As a key cross-functional contributor, this position bridges Engineering, Quality, Production, and Commissioning teams to standardize processes, reduce rework, and enable efficient transition from first-of-a-kind (FOAK) builds to serial production. This role plays a critical part in building the organization’s long-term manufacturing knowledge system.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Develop and maintain controlled Assembly Work Instructions (AWIs) aligned with ISO and internal document control standards.
- Translate engineering drawings, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and OEM manuals into clear, shop-floor-ready instructions.
- Create structured, station-based work instructions including torque specs, quality checks, inspection points, and safety requirements.
- Develop visual documentation including annotated images, step-by-step guides, and standardized work packages.
- Capture and produce high-quality video documentation of assembly processes for training and reference.
- Build and maintain a structured digital library of visual and video content organized by system, station, and revision.
- Design and deliver training materials for technicians, inspectors, and test personnel.
- Support onboarding programs, station readiness, and refresh training following revision.
- Assist in building competency frameworks and training matrices for shop personnel.
- Capture lessons learned from production, NCRs, rework, testing, and field service activities.
- Maintain and manage a formal Lessons Learned Register.
- Translate recurring issues into documentation updates, process improvements, and engineering feedback.
- Support configuration and revision control by ensuring documentation reflects current designs and changes.
- Track updates from engineering change notices, OEM revisions, and production feedback.
- Maintain alignment between released documentation and as-built conditions.
- Collaborate across Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Test, and Commissioning teams.
- Participate in production reviews and post-build evaluations.
- Support standardization and replication of processes across multiple sites and partners all Canada-build components, including ducts, frames, MCC (motor control center) items, harness hardware, exhaust modules, doors, ladders, hose kits, skids (fuel gas, lube oil handling, and urea skids), and roof-fire lines.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Experience:
- Experience in complex mechanical and/or electrical assembly environments.
- Strong understanding of revision control, configuration management, and document structures.
- Experience working within ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems.
- Background in energy, power generation, heavy equipment, or industrial sectors is preferred.
- Experience supporting FOAK-to-serial production environments is an asset.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices is beneficial.
- Exposure to knowledge management systems or digital documentation platforms is an asset.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, engineering support, or technical documentation roles.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Technical Communication, or related field.
Relationships
Internal:
- Work closely with Engineering teams to translate design intent into executable procedures.
- Collaborate with Quality to ensure compliance and traceability in documentation.
- Support Production and Assembly teams by enabling clear, usable shop floor instructions.
- Coordinate with Program Management on priorities and production readiness.
External:
- Interface with OEMs and suppliers to interpret manuals, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with external partners or subcontractors to align documentation standards.
- Support field service teams by incorporating operational feedback into documentation updates.
- Engage with auditors or regulatory bodies during documentation reviews if required.
PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
- Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to X-Group safety policies and SOPs.
- PPE: Ability to wear required gear (steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, and navigate an active industrial shop floor.
