Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee payroll services within the Client Accounting Services department, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately, compliantly, efficiently, and within established timelines.
This role is responsible for payroll workflow management, operational consistency, compliance oversight, payroll process improvement, and overall client experience related to payroll services. The Payroll Manager oversees complex payroll matters, CRA payroll reviews, non-routine payroll situations, payroll onboarding, and operational payroll escalations while supporting both internal staff and client workflows.
The role also focuses on improving payroll systems, workflows, resources, communication, and operational efficiency across the department. This includes identifying opportunities to improve client experience, streamline payroll processes, support technology adoption, and develop scalable payroll procedures and support resources for both staff and clients.
The Payroll Manager is expected to proactively identify workflow inefficiencies, operational concerns, recurring client issues, and process improvement opportunities while independently progressing operational initiatives and solutions. Major priorities, timelines, scope considerations, and non-standard operational matters are aligned with the Senior Manager prior to implementation.
Duties
- Payroll Operations: Manage end-to-end payroll processing & systems. Ensuring service delivery and managing deadlines.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Maintaining accurate records, monitoring legislative changes and ensuring compliance with CRA regulations & tax laws.
- Scope, Time & Operational Management: Coordinating workflows, assessing clients requests and maintaining an accurate & timely entry of payroll-related work in our database.
- Systems & Process Improvement: Identifying opportunities to improve workflow & operational efficiency and utilize technology to track & scale payroll operations.
- Payroll Onboarding & Client Support: Lead onboarding for new client payroll and executing applicable internal process.
- Collaboration and Alignment: work closely with with Senior Manager align on priorities & collaborate with internal teams (Tax, Bookkeeping, Admin etc) to ensure consistency and smooth operations.
- Team Support: Coordinate payroll schedules, timelines, workflow expectations and operational priorities across the payroll team.
- Service Intervention: Identify recurring client concerns, workflow issues, and develop proactive solutions. Respond to payroll inquiries and escalate in a timely and professional manner.
- Support audits by providing necessary documentation and analysis of payroll data.
Experience
- PCP designation considered an asset.
- Proven experience managing payroll compliance and processing experience within a corporate environment.
- Proficiency with payroll systems such as Wagepoint, Humi, Payworks or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of CRA payroll requirements and remittances.
- Familiarity with accounts payable/receivable processes and bookkeeping is preferred.
- Excellent analysis skills to interpret payroll data and generate actionable insights.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Pay: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
