Position Overview
The Technical Programs Coordinator is a key member of the Badminton BC team, responsible for the oversight and administration of technical pathways for coaches and officials. This role ensures that Badminton BC provides high-quality developmental opportunities and maintains compliance with provincial and national sport standards.
The ideal candidate is familiar with the NCCP coaching system, has experience with the roles of Badminton umpires and referees, and can effectively schedule and communicate details about training courses.
Key Responsibilities
1. Coach Development Responsibilities
- Lead the coordination of National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) courses
- Maintain the technical pathway and accreditation for coaches, ensuring all data is accurately tracked and updated in databases
- Generate and deliver certificates of completion and issue annual coach accreditation badges in a timely manner
- Maintain electronic folders for each coach, verifying essential documentation including Criminal Record Checks, signed Codes of Conduct, etc.
- Provide Referees with a list of accredited coaches the day prior to every sanctioned competition
- Provide input on the Coaching Manual and improve regular communications with coaches through newsletters and technical updates
- Assist in the recruitment and selection of coaches for major multi-sport events like the BC Winter Games and Canada Winter Games
2. Official Development Responsibilities
- Administration of the technical pathway for officials, ensuring evaluations and successful completions are recorded in organizational databases
- Electronically file Referee Reports and Official Remuneration documents in appropriate event files for every sanctioned tournament
- Coordinate the ordering and delivery of officials' uniforms and equipment
- Create and maintain individual portfolio folders for all officials in electronic folders, ensuring all communication, forms, and invoices are uploaded
- Generate PayPal links for course registrations and evaluation requests, and process payments for official-related items
- Provide input of existing guidelines and policy and assist development of the Terms of Reference for the Officials Committee
3. High-Performance and Multi-Sport Games Support
- Games Support: Provide administrative support for the recruitment and selection of coaches and officials for major events like the BC Winter Games and Canada Winter Games
- Selection Committee: Support the Selection Committee in executing fair and transparent selection processes for both athletes and coaches
- Technical Packages: Act as an advisor in the creation or review of technical packages for multi-sport events
- Rankings: Support maintenance of provincial athlete rankings
4. Organizational Reporting and Governance
- viaSport Reporting: Support quarterly reporting exercises and comprehensive Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) evaluation projects
- Member Services: Serve as the primary point of contact for technical inquiries from officials, and coaches
- Procedural Documentation: Document regular administrative procedures into a formal manual to ensure organizational continuity
- Committee Support: Support development and maintenance of Terms of Reference for the Competitions, Coaching, and Officials Committees
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Minimum of one to two years in a sport administrative or technical role, preferably within a provincial sport organization
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience with MailChimp and website updates is an asset
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with the NCCP framework, CAC Locker, and tournament management software (e.g., Tournament Planner) is highly preferred
- Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multi-step accreditation processes and meet strict reporting deadlines
Core Competencies
Technical Proficiency & Sport Knowledge
- Knowledge of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) framework and the ability to manage technical pathways and certifications via the CAC Locker
Administrative & Organizational Excellence
- Ability to translate complex administrative tasks into formal procedural manuals to ensure organizational continuity
- High attention to detail in tracking multi-step accreditation requirements, verifying Criminal Record Checks, and maintaining historical records of coach and official evaluations
- Proven ability to meet strict reporting timelines, particularly for viaSport quarterly reports and provincial sport evaluation projects
Communication & Stakeholder Relations
- Ability to act as a bridge between Badminton BC and key external stakeholders, including Badminton Canada, viaSport, and the BC Games Society
- Capability to review technical manuals and provide insightful feedback or recommendations for policy improvements
- Expertise in using Google Drive and Dropbox for maintaining meticulous organizational records, including coach portfolios and event-specific folders
Pay: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
