With over 70 years in business, Northwest Tank Lines has built its reputation on integrity, safety, customer service, and operational excellence. As one of Canada’s premier tank truck companies, we specialize in the transportation of bulk liquid products throughout Western Canada, including petroleum products, condensate, produced water, propane, butane, NGLs, and other regulated dangerous goods.
We are currently hiring a Dispatcher to join our Northern Alberta Operations team. This role is best suited for someone with strong oilfield transportation experience, a solid understanding of dangerous goods compliance, and the ability to make sound operational decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Preference will be given to candidates with dispatch experience in bulk fluid hauling, dangerous goods transportation, and tank truck operations involving products such as butane, propane, NGLs, condensate, and produced water.
This position will report to the Operations Lead, Northern Alberta. Candidates should reside in the Grande Prairie area. The successful candidate may initially work from home until Northwest’s Grande Prairie office is completed, at which point this will transition into an in-office position.
Position Overview
The Dispatcher will be responsible for coordinating the daily movement of drivers, trucks, trailers, and customer loads across Northern Alberta and surrounding operating areas. This includes working closely with drivers, customers, field personnel, maintenance, and operations leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient service.
This is not a basic dispatch role. The successful candidate must understand the demands of oilfield transportation, changing field conditions, customer requirements, driver hours, equipment limitations, and compliance expectations related to the movement of dangerous goods.

- Ensure drivers are properly assigned based on qualifications, orientations, site requirements, and product-specific requirements.
- Support compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods requirements and company safety standards.
- Review driver documents for accuracy, including tickets, hours, paperwork, and supporting documentation.
- Approve billable and payable hours where required.
- Plan and schedule around plant interruptions, outages, weather impacts, haul diversions, holidays, equipment downtime, and customer changes.
- Review dispatch schedules and plant details daily, then strategically adjust plans as needed.
- Track driver orientations and ensure drivers remain compliant for customer and site access.
- Support safe and efficient movement of pressure vessels and related tank truck equipment where applicable.
- Assist with administrative duties related to dispatch, operations, reporting, and documentation.
- Participate in site or field visits as required.

- Excellent communication skills with drivers, customers, maintenance, and operations teams.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail, especially when reviewing tickets, driver documents, hours, and compliance-related information.
