Role:
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Coordinator assists with developing, implementing, and enforcing safety and environmental policies with the main goal to protect employees, minimize environmental impact, and ensure organizational compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and industry standards.
Scope:
The HSE Coordinator supports the business operations in our 24/7 production operation in Beamsville, ON.
Core areas of responsibility:
Program Administration
- Maintaining detailed records of training completions, incident logs, safety metrics
- Maintaining and updating safety policies and procedures
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensuring all workplace operations adhere to federal, provincial, and municipal regulations, e.g., OHSA Section 851, Ministry of Labor requirements, CSA Z432, etc.
- Supporting processes related to environmental permits, and air and acoustic emission reports, etc.
Risk Assessment & Auditing
- Conducting routine safety workplace inspections and environmental audits to identify potential hazards or points of non-compliance. The findings of the Workplace Inspections are documented and addressed to Management.
- Recommending corrective and preventative actions to mitigate risks
- Responsible for assisting with mandatory/legislated risk assessments for equipment and work areas, and for assisting with the implementation of required measures to eliminate safety risks or deficiencies as well as required documentation
Training & Education
- Leading safety orientation for new full-time hires or temporary workers
- Creating training documents in collaboration with department managers
- Organizing and delivering safety training (e.g. PPE usage, emergency procedures) and routine safety talks
- Assisting in ensuring that all staff receive appropriate training regarding safety of equipment (including production lines, forklift, overhead crane, electric walkie, etc.) and that all required safety training documentation has been signed by employees and filed before they start their work.
- Supporting Management to fulfill all safety training in all departments, including completion of Safety Training Matrix
Incident Investigation
- Assist in investigating workplace accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents with department managers
- Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions
- Track trends to prevent recurring issues
Environmental Management
- Monitor compliance with environmental regulations (waste disposal, air emissions, plastic pallets spill, water use)
- Bring any non-compliance or near-miss to management’s attention
- Support sustainability initiatives and environmental impact reduction
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain records (incident logs, inspection reports, training documents)
- Scan all employees’ training records and save them on the server
- Prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies
- Track safety KPIs, prepare management safety reports.
- Maintain incident/accident registry.
Emergency Preparedness
- Assist in developing and maintaining emergency response plans
- Coordinate emergency response drills (fire evacuation, spill response, etc.)
Regular duties
- Maintain workplace safety based on the principle “Safety First” (company-wide priority order: 1) Safety - 2) Quality - 3) Productivity)
- Ensure that policies and procedures regarding workplace safety and environmental protection are strictly adhered to at all times
- PPE: Check and ensure that personal protective equipment is available, utilized correctly, and maintained
- Workplace Inspections: Walk the floor to observe work practices and correct unsafe behavior in real-time for Dorken employees and third party contractors.
- JHSC: Attend or coordinate Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings to discuss employee concerns and safety and create meeting minutes and document action points.
- Act as Project Safety Coordinator
- Act as Radiation Safety Officer for the company

Education / Qualification
- Secondary school graduate (e.g., high school diploma)
- College / university degree in related field is an asset, i.e., Occupational Health & Safety; Engineering / Industrial Technology; Environmental Science
- JHSC Certification (Part 1 & 2)
- WHMIS certification
- Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness certification
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is an asset
- Certified Health & Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation is an asset
Work Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in safety related role in production environment.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements (e.g., Health & Safety Awareness for Workers per OHSA, etc.)
- Understanding of performing risk analysis / assessment.
- Experience with 5S is an asset

- Physically able to sit, stand and walk around for long periods at a time, and repeatedly lift up to 23 kg unassisted
Working Conditions:
- 8 am – 4.30 pm with flexibility to accommodate 24/7 operation
- 100% on-site at the company premises
- Overtime and/or weekend work when required based on operational needs
- Occasional travel may be required with advanced notice provided
