About the Role
The Baker is a skilled and detail-oriented member of our team who takes pride in creating exceptional baked goods. This is a hands-on role for someone who brings a sharp eye for detail, strong technical skills, and a genuine love of baking to the kitchen every day.
As a Baker, you’ll create a wide range of high-quality products, from artisan breads and laminated doughs to restaurant-quality desserts, cakes, and other premium baked goods. You’ll have the opportunity to bring creativity and craftsmanship to your work while following established recipes, techniques, and quality standards.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare and bake artisan breads, rolls, laminated doughs, pastries, cakes, desserts, and other specialty baked goods to a consistently high standard.
- Produce and finish restaurant-quality desserts with attention to flavour, texture, portioning, plating potential, and visual presentation.
- Mix, shape, proof, bake, decorate, glaze, fill, and finish items according to recipes, production schedules, and quality standards.
- Create and decorate cakes, pastries, and dessert items with precision, creativity, and a high-end aesthetic.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation while following all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
- Monitor ingredient quality, inventory levels, production needs, and waste, communicating shortages or concerns promptly.
- Operate bakery equipment safely and properly, including mixers, sheeters, ovens, proofers, scales, and smallwares.
- Work collaboratively with culinary, production, and hospitality teams to support daily production and special orders.
- Ensure all finished products meet Saffron Hill’s standards for quality, consistency, freshness, and presentation.
What You’ll Bring
- 2 years of professional baking or pastry experience.
- Strong knowledge of artisan bread production, laminated doughs, cakes, pastries, fillings, creams, glazes, and dessert finishing techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to produce refined, consistent, visually appealing products.
- Ability to read and follow recipes, scale ingredients accurately, and maintain consistency across batch production.
- Creative mindset with a strong understanding of flavour balance, texture, presentation, and premium product standards.
- Food Handler Certification is considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs.
- Reliable, organized, efficient, and committed to maintaining high standards of quality and cleanliness.
