Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller

We are seeking a driven and adaptable Intermediate Accountant to support our finance and operations teams.
Position Summary
The Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller plays a key role in supporting financial operations with a focus on cash flow management, project accounting, and data-driven reporting. This position works cross-functionally with finance, operations, and project teams to deliver timely financial insights, improve working capital performance, and support disciplined execution across the business. This role is expected to advance to a Controller position within 2-3 years.
Key Responsibilities
Cash Flow & Treasury
- Monitor daily cash positions across multiple entities and currencies
- Maintain a rolling cash flow forecast and provide actionable insights
- Execute banking transactions including electronic payments and disbursements
- Perform bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy across accounts
- Track debt obligations, reporting requirements, and financial covenants
- Partner with internal teams to optimize working capital (AR, AP, inventory)
- Ensure timely remittance of applicable taxes and statutory obligations
Project Accounting & Billing
- Prepare and manage progress billing, milestone invoicing, and customer billing cycles
- Track holdbacks, retainage, and contractual billing requirements
- Collaborate with project teams to validate project progress and financial status
- Support accurate job costing and revenue recognition
- Analyze actual vs. estimated project performance and identify margin improvement opportunities
- Monitor unbilled and deferred revenue balances
Accounts Receivable & Collections
- Manage accounts receivable aging and lead collection efforts
- Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve billing discrepancies
- Drive improvements in cash collection and overall cash conversion cycle
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
- Analyze project profitability, cost variances, and margin trends
- Evaluate product/service line performance
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Develop and maintain financial models, reports, and dashboards
General Accounting
- Perform month-end close activities including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Maintain general ledger accuracy across entities
- Support audit and year-end processes
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
Systems & Process Improvement
- Work within integrated financial and operational systems
- Support data integrity across finance, operations, and project workflows
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities
- Contribute to building a more data-driven and scalable finance function
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide backup support for payroll processing
- Contribute to ad hoc projects and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in manufacturing, construction, or project-based environments preferred
- CPA designation (or in progress) is an asset
Technical & Core Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset
- Advanced spreadsheet and financial modeling capabilities (SQL, AI Tools, Power BI)
- Experience with job costing and project-based accounting concepts (e.g., WIP)
- Familiarity with multi-entity and multi-currency environments
- Proficiency working with ERP or financial systems (MS Business Central)
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and eager to learn and grow
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally

Pay: Up to $80,000.00 per year
