Full job description

Step aboard a living piece of Canadian history. Muskoka Steamships operates the legendary RMS Segwun (built in 1887), North America’s oldest operating steamship and the 5th oldest operating steamship in the world, alongside the modern Wenonah II. Our sightseeing, dining, and private cruises showcase the best of the Muskoka Lakes; Muskoka, Rosseau, and Joseph.

We’re a charitable organization preserving the steamship era in Muskoka, and Segwun is the crown jewel. If you’re a hands-on engineer who loves steam, problem-solving, and pride-in-craft work, this is a rare chance to be part of something unforgettable.

What you’ll do

Operate and maintain the steam plant in a marine environment with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and professionalism.
Monitor and maintain key ship systems (including mechanical, electrical, fire, and plumbing).
Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventative maintenance, keeping heritage equipment running smoothly and safely.
Support general maintenance tasks as needed and work closely with the onboard team to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Contribute to a culture of safe operations, tidy machinery spaces, and “do it right” workmanship.

What we’re looking for

Marine Steam Engineer certification (3rd or 4th class preferred).
We will also consider candidates with extensive steam knowledge, strong mechanical ability, or relevant marine/industrial experience.
Calm, practical troubleshooting skills and confidence working with complex systems.
Team-first attitude, strong communication, and pride in maintaining high standards.
