Adult SLP: Work with clients and their support systems to optimize long-term well-being and functional independence. Embedded in a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment, an Adult SLP supports clients with swallowing and communication difficulties secondary to acquired medical, neurological and respiratory conditions.

Pediatric SLP: Make an impact early in the lives of preschoolers and their families. With focus on intervention, every day brings new opportunities of learning and connections. Explore your full scope of practice. Build relationships with clients and families and contribute to children reaching their full communication potential.

Rural SLP: Explore the vast landscape of British Columbia with our unique rural opportunities. In communities such as qathet (Powell River) and the Sunshine Coast, SLPs work with clients with diverse abilities and experience the advantages of working with smaller, creative, and collaborative teams.
These areas of care are offered accross multiple settings, including:

As a Speech Language Pathologist with VCH you will:
-
Assess, diagnose and treat the full range of communication and swallowing disorders.
-
Complete client reports, educate clients/family, provide counselling and consultation, and present lectures.

Participate in interdisciplinary team rounds, risk management and research, and provide leadership to new employees and Speech-Language Pathology students.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
-
Current full registration as a Speech Language Pathologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Broad knowledge of evidence based practice.

Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.

Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.

Basic knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Demonstrated ability to operate related computer equipment.

Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
-
Demonstrated ability to determine and deal effectively with urgent situations, clients/families/ residents.

Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver presentations.
-
Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.
-
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other healthcare professionals.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.
