Job Description
As Shop Foreman, you have strong interpersonal skills, are a team player and will provide leadership to other workers.The Shop Foreman oversees the safe and efficient daily functions of the fabrication facility at Denmax Energy Services. You will manage shop staff directly, coordinate workflow, and ensure all manufacturing tasks are finalized on time and on budget while upholding peak quality and safety standards. In this role, you will lead by example, foster a strong safety culture, and guide team members. The Shop Foreman must collaborate with drafting, procurement, and project management to ensure every job is executed successfully.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety
- Advocate for and uphold all Denmax Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines.
- Execute daily safety briefings and identify workplace hazards.
- Maintain operational safety through strict adherence to company protocols.
- Oversee facility cleanliness and ensure an orderly shop environment.
- Verify that all staff utilize the appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Document and analyze any safety incidents or precarious conditions.
Production Management
- Organize and direct all manufacturing and fabrication efforts.
- Delegate specific tasks to shop personnel, including welders and apprentices.
- Manage production timelines and adjust staffing to ensure timely completion.
- Optimize the flow of work through every manufacturing phase.
- Spot production delays and apply fixes to boost output efficiency.
- Support resource planning and workforce requirement assessments.
Quality Control
- Guarantee that all fabrication meets specific technical standards:
- ASME B31.3 and CSA Z662
- ASME Section IX and CWB codes
- Client requirements and IFC documentation
- Internal Quality Management System policies
- Inspect dimensions, fit-up, and final project assembly.
- Manage pressure testing, NDE, and third-party inspection points.
- Rectify all project deficiencies prior to client delivery.
Leadership
- Provide mentorship and guidance to all facility workers.
- Instruct new hires on shop safety and quality benchmarks.
- Perform staff reviews and offer actionable performance advice.
- Foster a culture of cooperation and personal responsibility.
- Advise on recruitment needs and necessary disciplinary measures.
Planning & Coordination
- Assess fabrication packages and blue prints before starting work.
- Align project goals with Branch and Project Management teams.
- Secure availability of all necessary tools, materials, and equipment.
- Liaise with procurement to resolve any supply gaps.
- Balance shop schedules to meet all external delivery commitments.
Equipment & Facility
- Ensure all machinery is kept in safe working condition.
- Schedule routine maintenance and oversee equipment repairs.
- Track the performance of welding units, forklifts, and compressors.
- Ensure all lifting gear and shop tools pass required inspections.
Documentation
- Prepare thorough daily reports on production activities.
- Record employee hours and track fabrication milestones.
- Maintain organized records for inspections and manufacturing.
- Verify that turnover packages and weld maps are fully detailed.
Customer Service
- Act as a professional Denmax liaison for clients and contractors.
- Attend and contribute to client consultations as needed.
- Address and resolve any shop issues with speed and expertise.
Qualifications & Requirements (not limited to):
- Journeyperson Welder, Pipefitter, or equivalent trade certification (preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of fabrication experience.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a fabrication environment.
- Strong understanding of pressure piping and structural steel fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and isometrics.
- Working knowledge of ASME, CSA, CWB and quality requirements.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- CWB Welding Supervisor certification (preferred).
- ASME pressure piping experience (preferred).
- Rigging and crane experience (preferred).
- First Aid Training (preferred).
- Computer proficiency.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work overtime when required to meet project schedules.
