London Health Sciences Centre Research Institute (LHSCRI) brings together some of the most brilliant minds to transform patient care through research. As the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), one of Canada's largest research-intensive acute care teaching hospitals, our teams conduct research where patient care is delivered, working alongside patients, families, health-care providers, and academic partners like Western University. The diversity of care delivered at LHSC translates to a multifaceted research and innovation program, ranging from laboratory-based science to clinical trials. We are leaders in advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment and management of diseases and health conditions that align directly to LHSC's care programs and clinical expertise.

Administrative support services provided through LHSCRI and the Office of Research Services enable our research teams to continue their life-changing studies by supporting everything from grants development to publicity.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Research Operations, the Coordinator, Research Operations is accountable for the leadership of front-line research staff. This includes broad oversight of unit activities, work assignments, attendance management, talent development, professional development, research budget maintenance and monitoring, and implementing best practices to ensure research quality, optimal health and safety practices while maintaining excellence at London Health Sciences Centre Research Institute (LHSCRI). The role coordinates with principal investigators and corporate HR for reassignments, hiring, and termination of research staff. The role fosters effective working relationships, interfacing with external research sponsors such as industry sponsors, Clinical Research Organizations, Canadian government research funding agencies, and other funding agencies to monitor quality of study site performance, attract more research opportunities, and ensure that research projects are adequately funded. The role provides linkages between researchers, research staff, health disciplines, nursing and functional areas at LHSC to create research opportunities, promote research services available at LHSCRI, and contribute to the integration of research and care. The role contributes to Institute initiatives that will develop research policies and contribute to process change with a focus on increasing research access, efficiency and alignment.

What Skills Are Needed

Demonstrated ability to hold staff accountable to organizational policies, procedures, and performance
Ability to collaborate with principal investigators (PIs) and the team on financial accountability and funding matters
Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory health, safety, and regulatory requirements, with a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant research environment
Experience ensuring compliance with organizational policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and applicable legislation, including occupational health and safety requirements
Ability to coordinate laboratory resources, prioritize competing activities, and optimize the efficient use of personnel, equipment, and operational resources.
Basic understanding of clinical trials management

What You Will Bring with You

Successful completion of a recognized baccalaureate degree program in a related field such as Health Sciences or a Science-related discipline, preferred*
Related post-graduate education preferred (Master's degree)
Minimum one to two (1-2) years' experience in progressively more responsible leadership roles in a healthcare environment, preferably in an acute care academic teaching hospital
Minimum three (3) years' experience in Research preferred
Experience in laboratory settings preferred
Fluent and computer literate with computer systems such as email and Microsoft Office applications (MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
