Position Details
Job Title: Division 8 Estimator and Technical Specialist
Direct Manager: President, Operations

Company Location: ABC Security Access Systems’ office and warehouse facilities are located at 55 Queens Plate Drive, Toronto, Ontario, M9W 6P2.
Work Arrangement: This role is primarily office based with travel to client sites across the Greater Toronto Area as needed.
Work Schedule: The company’s standard hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours or overtime may be required from time to time based on operational needs.
Expected Compensation: The expected hiring range for this role is $85,000 to $95,000 annually.

Position Overview
The Division 8 Estimator and Technical Specialist provides estimating, technical, and execution support for Division 8 scope across the organization, including doors, frames, architectural hardware, electrified hardware, and automatic door operators.
The role is responsible for preparing accurate estimates for service work and installations through site assessment, scope definition, and material identification, while ensuring solutions are practical, code-compliant, and aligned with field conditions.
In addition, the position acts as a technical resource to support internal teams by providing product guidance, application support, and real-time troubleshooting during installation and project activities.
The role remains actively involved in execution by managing and coordinating Division 8 scope across assigned installations, including labour coordination, material readiness, and ensuring work is delivered in accordance with schedule, budget, and defined requirements.
This is a hands-on, multi-functional role requiring the ability to move between estimating, technical support, and field coordination based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Provide technical guidance on Division 8 systems across the organization (doors, frames, architectural hardware, electrified hardware, and automatic door operators), in office, in the field, or remotely
- Support product selection and ensure appropriate application based on site conditions and intended use
- Provide real-time troubleshooting and technical support in response to installation, service, and project-related issues
- Provide input on electrified hardware applications and integration with access control systems
- Ensure all guidance aligns with applicable codes and standards, including the Ontario Building Code (OBC), Ontario Fire Code (OFC), and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
Estimation
- Review drawings and specifications, where available
- Attend site visits to assess existing conditions, take measurements, and define scope
- Determine labour and material requirements, prepare detailed material lists, and provide information to support procurement
- Identify scope gaps and design issues and incorporate solutions into defined scope
- Prepare accurate estimates for Division 8 service work and installations, and support estimating efforts on larger projects as required
- Collaborate with the Director of Project Management and Estimation to improve estimate accuracy and consistency
Project Support
- Manage and execute Division 8 scope across assigned installations and larger projects, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with defined requirements
- Coordinate internal teams, subcontractors, and other trades, including scheduling labour, confirming material availability, and sequencing work to support efficient execution
- Support Project Managers on larger projects; overall project management remains with the assigned Project Manager
Other Duties
- Perform other duties that are consistent with the purpose and general responsibilities of the position.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years of experience working with Division 8 scope, including doors, frames, and architectural hardware
- Hands-on experience in Division 8 roles (installation, service, or locksmithing)
- Experience preparing estimates, quotes, or material lists
- Experience assessing site conditions and defining scope
- Experience coordinating work with field staff, subcontractors, or internal teams
- Strong understanding of hardware applications and installation practices
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (OBC, OFC, AODA)
- Experience with electrified hardware (e.g., electric strikes, magnetic locks) considered an asset
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances
Working Conditions
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment using office equipment and computer systems.
Work is performed regularly at client sites throughout the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding areas. Client sites may include commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-residential properties throughout the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding areas. Depending on the site and work being performed, employees may be exposed to changing site conditions, including noise, dust, equipment, machinery, uneven surfaces, stairs, ladders, working at heights, restricted areas, outdoor conditions, and other site-specific hazards or requirements.
Work is performed occasionally in the company’s warehouse, shop, or production area, where employees may be exposed to tools, equipment, noise, dust, and light production or fabrication activities.
Travel Requirements
- Local travel within the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding areas is required as part of the role.
- Valid G class Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform site inspections and assessments, including standing, walking, bending, climbing ladders, and navigating confined or elevated spaces
- Ability to lift and handle tools, hardware, or materials weighing up to 50 lbs on an occasional basis
- Ability to use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety footwear, hard hats, high-visibility clothing, gloves, and eye protection
- Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer, phone, and standard office equipment
